He says that abortion is necessary in China, but the policy of requiring that girl babies only will eventually result in the destruction of racial purity in that country....or something like that.

Pat Robertson always was a pompas ass. Ever bother to read one of his books? If those who believe in him did, most of them would rather not mention his name in polite company.

Many moons ago my hubby had a great aunt that was quite wealthy. She had placed all of her wealth into a trust to be distributed to hubby and his siblings when she passed on. She got cancer... over the course of a year she sent every last dime to the various television evangelist... prayer cloths and all that rot. She still died (oh, the surprise) and they got all the money.
IMO, Robertson leads the pack for that kind of behavior.

Well, I can't STAND televangelists, so I find it BIZARRE that I'm actually going to defend Old Pat here.
What he said makes perfect sense to me.
I am against abortion in the abstract, BUT i realize that real life makes demands on us that abstract morality can't always cope with and I support abortion rights because I know 'stuff happens'. Apparently Pat agrees that in the case of China, something has to be done and that limits have to be set. I'm not in favor of forced abortion---I would prefer that individuals themselves set those limits---and I gather he isn't either, but I'm very GLAD to see he's recognizing the demands of THIS world as opposed to ONLY the (supposed) demands of the next world. The gist of what I got from what he said were more along the lines of 'realistically there are times when abortion is necessary'.
His comments about racial purity were NOT advocating race separation, he was simply commenting that because so many girl babies are being aborted, in 20 years there will be a shortage of Chinese women for Chinese men to marry and that they will need to go outside their race to find wives, which is sometimes considered BY THEM to be a tragic situation (much like orthodox Jewish persons, some of whom consider their children DEAD if they marry outside of Orthodox Judaism.) ROBERTSON himself never said it was a tragedy for them to intermarry with others.
It is not racism to refer to a cultural group's tendency to be endogamous.

The teachings of Contraception rather than forced abortion surely would be more humane and the most practical and cheapest.

i agree, but education doesn't stop every pregnancy. Every single close female friend I have except one has had an abortion and they all have college degrees and hold responsible jobs. They all knew all about contraception. People don't always do what they are taught to do especially when it comes to sex, which is a 'shameful' subject to many, STILL. And if you live in a country like china, which can't afford any more 'accidental' pregnancies....then what???
it's a mistake that all people have to do to prevent pregnancy is to be handed a condom or a packet of pills. people do stupid things---even the best and the brightest. the busiest free clinic in my town is the one next to the university and half the people are there for pregnancy tests which usually turn out to be positive---I know because I used to volunteer there.
