Download the software from napigator. You'll be able to connect to servers that aren't hosted in the United States using the Napster software. It works exactly like Napster, except no filtering.

BearShare is a free P2P software download that works really well for me, and it also is for all file types.

But just like with any P2P software, have a good firewall and virus software.

I use Gnotella instead of Bearshare, because I think Bearshare has spyware attached to it.

Audiogalaxy is interesting to browse through, better in some ways than Napster or Gnutella, worse in others. Use ad-aware to get rid of the spyware in it though.

Hello,

Here is a site with good information on alternatives:

http://marlowe.50megs.com/

I shifted to AudioGalaxy.com The download page on the above site has a version of the program with simple instructions on installing without the spyware. After a week using it, I really like the site. You can manage your "wish list" on the web site without connecting the "satelite" to the server. I believe you can have up to 500 files on the list. The searchable database includes everything someone has had available and not just what is available at the moment. Therefore, if you have an unusual song on your wish list, when the one person who has it connects it will be downloaded for you if you are connected. This is great for those of us with DSL or better who stay connected, but even people with dial up who connect at bedtime have good luck if they maintain a big wish list.

Another good feature is that files are held as temp files until complete, which may take once or more tries, but eliminates incomplete files and seems to work just fine.

Also, you can choose the number of simultaneous connections, which will then be the same for both up and down loads and seems only fair.

You can go to the audiogalaxy.com site and search by song title or performer to get an idea of the selection before bothering to set it up, but for the songs I like it is even better than the good old days of napster.

The only problem I have noticed is that you have no control over the speed of the donor, so the days of picking T1 or better are gone, but then why care if it is chugging along while you are asleep or at work.

Good luck,

Prudence

imesh.com

You can get mp3's, mpeg's, avi's, jpg's, anything you want that people are willing to share.

I use Bearshare and just set my firewall (zone alarm) to block the spyware. This is also true of programs such as Gator, Weatherbug etc......
