I have posted about this before but I know have more questions with no answers. My 3 year cat has a sneezy runny nose(only on one side), her eye waters, and today she sounds really congested.
She has been tested for everything imaginable, had X-rays of her skull to rule out anything being stuck in her nose, they did a culture/sensitivity(which had no results). She's been on Amoxocillian, Baytril, Clavamox, Pred, antihistimines, and had a steriod shot....All the meds work for a week or so then have no effect. The vet says it is not an allergy.
Has anyone ever came across this problem?? If so HOW did you make it go away and WHAT was it?????

Good question, I wish I had an answer! I have a cat that get's a watery eye at least once a week. Lasts for a few hours and then goes away. I wish I knew what it was too.

Ask the vet about chronic sinusitus. Don't laugh...I laughed! We have a little female here, about two years old, who has some scary upper respiratory stuff. VERY congested, sneezes all the time, some of the watery eye stuff, and much wheezing. I took her to the vet here about a year ago, and he said she has Chronic Sinusitus.
Who knew cats could get that?
Our vet gave us Clindamycin Hydrochloride, which sounds scary, but works wonders for her. We give it to her once a day for a week, and she clears up. (Actually, she shows improvement within an hour of the first dose.) Then after the week's course is done, sometimes a week, sometimes two weeks, sometimes only a couple of days, she's back at it again. So he gives us enough of the medicine that we can give it to her when she needs it, using the same dosage each time. Saves on vet bills.
Clindamycin Hydrochloride is actually a canine medication, but apparently can be used for feline patients as well with no side effects. (I questioned the vet after reading the insert with the med.) It's a liquid, with a bulb top for dosing, and is much easier than pilling.

Thanks MaddieNicks!!!
I will call the vet as soon as they open this morning. Actually chronic sinusitus was one of his suggestions but all the meds he puts her on have little to no effect after a week or so. Poor little thing is sneezing her head off the past few days--It pains me that I can't make it stop.
I will suggest those meds you mentioned and go from there.
Pills would be easier for me....Last liquid meds she had ended up all over the place!

this is allergy season. dogs and cats have allergic reactions to grasses, trees, mold etc., just like people. many vets do not have labs that test for all the usual human allergens. there should be no problem giving your cat half an over-the-counter antihistamine tablet such as diphenhydramine. ask your vet if it is harmful. if he/she says it is not, do not let them discourage you from trying it. it works for my dog. also you did not say whether it was a house cat or not. if it goes outside you can wipe its paws when it comes in to get all the allergens off. if it wipes its eyes it can irritate them this way. BTW- it has been recently discovered that chronic sinusitis is caused by mold/fungus. common, non-infectious sinusitis will usually not react to antibiotics. steroids like Vancenase can calm it down but an anti-fungal is what is really needed.

hi zkatt! I hope some of the advice here helps poor puddy tat.... sounds like this has been going on for a couple of months!
I am untrained in meds but do want to remind you to be sure she is supported with excellent nutrition while you two struggle through this. Feed only a high-quality food like Nutro or Iams, no snacks. I would try supplementing with Brewer's Yeast Powder sprinkled lightly over the dry food. I use the 'Brewer's Yeast with Linatone Supplement' by Lambert Kay. My boys love the taste and try to slurp it off the top! I wnder at your vet dismissing allergies so lightly........ a bit hasty seems to me. I wonder if allergy caused the initial minor problem and then a sinus infection developed?
Anything new in the house? Pet rabbit? Pet ferret? Houseplant? New shampoo/hairspray/lotion/cologne-perfume? New furniture or slipcovers? Did you change the product you mop the floors with? Did you spray the house /and/or yard for bugs? Did you start her on a new food? Please let us know her progress!

Thanks for the input guys!
I'm still waiting for the vet to call so I'll run all the suggestions by him.
This has been going on since Christmas....She has had 2 Benedryl shots, the first one cured her for a week..the second one had no effect.
She eats Iams everyday!

Ask the vet about giving her over the counter benadryl. My terrier suffers from sinusitis. When they flare up, I give her a benadryl and this helps her quite a bit. Her eyes get runny and I can tell when they are bothering her. Because her nose will stop up just like ours do. In fact right before I give it to her, I will tell her breathe and she holds her breath and won't breathe. Because she knows what is coming next.
