Hey all,
Anyone going to the Mill Creek garage sale tomorrow? Huge sale with hundreds of houses doing sales -most homes participate.

Anyway - heard so much about it - want to know if anyone has gone before?

Nope, not going. Everyone will be there so I will go somewhere with less competition.

Besides, I neverheard of it till you just said something and I have lived here all my life.

I've been, but not planning to go today. It's a fairly well off neighborhood so you can get some good stuff. However, the past couple of years, most sales have been overpriced on the items we shop for (used clothing). Many things priced over what we can get on auction.

I guess the reason I've been and others haven't is because I live in south Everett so Mill Creek tends to be a regular garage sale hunting area for me.

They hold this every year, but I am guessing it will be overpriced. I've been to it before.

I like to go to the less advertised ones, the ones you can drive around and look for sales..... makes for a nice ride anyway

good luck

Was going to drive in from Kittitas County for it, but it's cold and I'm feeling lazy, so I stayed local. Found some nice books and sheet music.

Tell us how it went if you go, ok?

Good luck!

Okay -
You guys made the right decision. It was a 2 hour complete waste of time.

I picked up a few things. But in two hours last weekend hunting for sales - my car was full. This time I had a few bags.

Problems:
*Police put out orange cones so you had to park blocks away - good exercise but long way when carrying big things.

*ALL and I repeat ALL sales were so over priced. I even had one lady say - well I looked them up on ebay and they go for double that!! Yea, sure lady - what day etc.

*For the poster regarding clothing - we sell primarliy designer label clothing and NEVER buy at garage sales - always overpriced unless you can get in lots.

*More people selling food items - hot dogs etc. than real items for sale.

*Lost of "Oh hey, this is that weekend. Hmm... let me dig in the house for some junk and see if all these ants walking buy will purchase them. I literally watched a guy put out his wifes two pairs of shoes and that was it at the end of his driveway. When they sold he found something else - like this was a game to him.

*Too many miles and streets with only 2-3 sales. A couple of streets - almost every 3 or 4 houses had a sale - but lots of streets there was only 1 or 2 per block.

What did I get for a reasonable price:

*2 Jody Bergsma double matted, signed older works from her gallery for $10 each. They retail around $50 or so I think.

*Lots of beanie babies from .50 cents to $1 for my kids to play with.

*White wicker plant stand - very nice one for $7. THIS was my best deal as this particular one retails for around $60.

*Four fish platters with cups attached from Fritz (sp) and Floyd(sp) for $10. May keep as not sure if a profit if I sell and they are adorable.

*Three fortune teller tea cups and saucers dated 1970 from England. Very cute - have seen them sell on ebay. $10 for all. Will make an okay profit.

Basically I went because we need to have 250 items to list this week as my lister is working full time. I was going to make a big add on to our inventory - I came away with a whopping 3 things to list.

What I passed up:
Kick me but I passed up a first edition marked cabbage patch baby that was $25 firm and a my size barbie that was $35 firm. Should I have picked them up? Haven't had a chance to do a search yet.

Then did what is best stopped at an unadvertised sale on the way home and picked up two LIKE NEW crib bumpers for $5 total!!

Next year - no way will I be going to that sale again. Local, non-advertised are definitely better.

You all missed nothing!!

OH I want one of the wicker plant stands!
Sounds like the usual Mill Creek sale of the year!

Really, you are better off, driving around, and checking corners for Garage Sale signs, the ones that aren't advertised in the paper, some people just don't want to pay to advertise in the classifieds.

You may want to go back there tommorow, before they close and see if the prices drop, a lot of times, late Sunday, people just want to get rid of thier stuff!

Oh! Thats Fitz & Floyd and that might have been a good deal!

Shoot - looks like I am kicking myself on the my size barbie as they are selling for $50+ and this one was in LIKE NEW condition.

The cabbage patch OTOH - I am glad I did not pick up as they are only going for $5-$10.

You win some - you lose some. The sale for most was only one day. However, I know where the house was at - I may go back and see if they still want to sell the My Size Barbie- you know for my niece as a gift blah blah blah

Oh bummer they are for one day!

If you ever get down to the Southwest area (Des Moines, Normandy Park) or West Seattle, they have some pretty good UNadvertised garage sales

It will be nice later this year we will have high speed wireless here in MI as fast as my DSL with a wireless modem. I can take a notebook and look up prices right in the car.

Gravid,
That is so funny I was calling my partner via my cell phone and she wasn't home - had she been we would have that Barbie to list today! In addition, my father's fishing organization was running one of the sales and when I got home and found out I called him and wanted him to pick up the Barbie on the way home. He never answered the phone. He later got a lecture on the purpose of having a cell phone - keep it on!!
