Alright folks, need some help. I've got a race on Friday and decided (tonight) that my current race tape just ain't gonna cut it.

So, am in the process of getting a new race tape together but am finding myself TOTALLY uninspired. I need music that gets the blood pumping and the feet moving.

This is what I have so far:

1)Man in Motion (from St. Elmo fire): Lame? Yes, but it *has* to be the first song.

2) The race is on: Sawyer Brown: Fast AND ironic.

3) Step that step: Sawyer Brown: See above.

4) We're not gonna take it: Twisted Sister

SO.....post your songs.

Anything by Judas Priest- you'll run fast and run over anyone in your way!! Heavy metal music is just all around good performance music.

Tinker (is that your name? ), that's what I was thinking....pulled out the AC/DC, but it just isn't FAST enough.

I've added: If you are gonna play in Texas by Alabama, and I'm looking at my Van Halen stuff.

I need 45 minutes worth (if I'm not done by then, I've died on the course and music won't matter...ha!)

Yes, I have been "Tinker" since high school. About 100 years ago.

I'm noticing a common thread in your music selection. Seems to be a lot of country. You'll want to be sure and not swallow any of your "chew" while you run.

Heavy metal 'fuzz, heavy metal.

Hey now, I ain't one of those bumpkin types! No dipping around these here parts! Although I do smoke (does that count?)

Actually, I've got just about every type of music there is....just hit my country collection first.

I *do* play Limp Biskit's "Give me something to Break" in the car before the race.....but it doesn't have a steady enough beat.

For pre-race motivation...PANTERA!!! A friend of mine plays rugby and the WHOLE TEAM gets together and listens to Pantera before a match. Talk about "hard core".

BlackCat: Never heard of it....can you hum a few bars? I'll go see if I can find it.

Keep 'em coming folks!

Speaking of Jesus-
You could listen to Audio Adrenaline or Degarmo and Key. The D&K is older so it may be harder to find. There is lots of "heavy metal" sounding Christian music. Whatever it takes to get the old pumper pumpin'.

An old rock and roll song that got me pumped on the way to the ski slopes was Cobra by Quicksilver Messenger Service, I doubt you'll find it anywhere except on Napster.

Maybe for variety you could try some classical, Bizet's "L'arlésienne" or Grieg's "Hall of the Mountain King" both of these evolve in to a rapid fire staccato.

Got the Life -- Korn

Bullet With Butterfly Wings -- Smashing Pumpkins

Master of Puppets --- Metallica

I used to work out to GNR's "Appetite for Destruction" CD. That was great for the bikes, kept me at about 85 rpms.

"Reckless Life" by GNR off of the "Lies" CD is a good one, too.

Try the last movement of any Beethoven symphony (except the 9th--it's too long for anything but a full marathon!). Any symphony will do, for that matter, but I'm rather partial to Beethoven's.

Without eBay, I might have a real life...

Hey! You guys are great!

I have to admit I got distracted....pull out one CD to rip, think, "Hey, haven't heard that song for awhile"....and...well, it's 2AM and I haven't done a darn thing all night. LOL

Sky: I've got some GNR on the possible list....er....pile.

MS: Thanks for the good wishes!

McB: I've been kicking around the idea of some classical stuff.....Beethoven is also in the possible pile.

Anyone think the Rocky theme would be just to 'cute'?

Remember ya'll this damn thing starts at 6 in the morning (which is good in one way....by 8 it will probably be 100 degrees).

How about "Run Like Hell" by Pink Floyd?

"You Could be Mine" by GNR is a pretty good one.

Another approach might be to hook up a potentiometer to your speedometer and hook you're volume control through that. The faster you go the lower the volume. You'd be rewarded by no music as long as you kept the petal to the floor. You could use what ever music offended you the most, for me it would be gangster rap, for someone else it might be Slim Whitman, or the greatest hits of Minnie Pearl. It would be like you were running away from bad music.
