Hello Dimview,

I'm a bit concerned that your method of calculating sell through rates may cast an inaccurate picture on the situation.

Why would the rate be calculated by dividing the number of auctions that ended with bids by the number of auctions currently running?

Shouldn't it be the number of auctions ending with bids divided by the number of auctions that have completed?

_____________________________________________

I checked my own auctions and here is the sell through rate that is relevant to me personally...

12 completed with bids divided by 25 completed for a sell through rate of 48%.

4 currently running with bids divided by 15 currently running for a rate of about 27%.

If all of my auctions end without further bids I would see a sell through rate of %40 assuming my definition is the same as yours.

What is the total number of auctions completed? How many ended with bids? How many days does this encompass?

Dimview,

Shouldn't it also be taken under consideration that most of the bidders are also the sellers on the site, much like other new online auctions?

I'd like to see the rates when the site has traffic in addition to the current users.

Golds went through the same thing, so it's not unusual, but someone mentioned in a thread on here that the site's been open the same length of time as AuctionSaloon and wanted to know why AuctionSaloon doesn't have as many auctions. Not hard to figure out is it? SYI has the same user base as Golds.

Nevertheless, when SYI develops a larger bidder base, I'd like to have those figures.

Speaking of my own experience, my bidders at Gold's were not other sellers. They were regular customers I brought over from ebay. My feedback when Gold's shut down was at 43. Of which 25 or so were unique users and weren't regular posters to any of the boards.

Just because I'm a seller, doesn't mean I'm not looking for items to buy. What better way to go shopping than to support the local crowd. Why should I go to another site if what I am looking for can be found right where I do my selling?
