I went to check out the $1 auctions on Bidville - checked out one category that I might be interested in, and didn't see any $1 auctions (this was after reversing the order so the "new" listings showed up first). What I saw was a lot of auctions that were clearly fishing for one bid - I can easily go to ebay and bid on some cheaper auctions for the same items with a good chance that I'll win them. So then I checked out another category and lo and behold - there were $1 auctions! However, they all had reserves and "Take It Now" prices that put them out of the "bargain price" range.
I would have checked other categories, but truthfully, in order to jump from one listing to another took a ridiculously long time (considering I'm currently browsing on a T1-line network). Is Bidville always this slow?
I wish you luck on your $1 auction experiment - these smaller sites really do need some sellers who are willing to take risks in order to spark interest. Part of the thrill of auctions is the possibility that you might get a bargain - if the "near retail" starting bids that I've seen are typical for the upstart auctions sites, I really don't have much reason to bother checking them.

Holdenrex, one of the stipulations of the $1-sale was that no reserves were to be used. I find that downright aggravating.

Well, I don't know if the seller with the $1 reserve auction was participating in the $1 sale or if it was just a coincidence. But you're right, $1 auctions with reserves are downright frustrating no matter what the venue. I certainly understand reserves (and have used them from time to time on big ticket items I've sold on ebay), but these are for widgets that go for less than $10. In fact, the seller's "Take it Now" price was less then $10, so it's not as if he/she was being unrealistic about the value -- but I do think reserve auctions on such low-priced items do nothing but tick off the bidders.

Not all sellers or items listed with a starting bid of $1 are included in this sale.
The key for the sale items is '$1-Sale' will be found in each auctions items main title.
To find the sale items in any one category use Bidvilles main search and use $1-Sale for title search and pick a category of your interest. This will pull up a list of sale items only with NO RESERVE.
Have Fun

holdenrex...I for one appreciate your taking the time to check out the sale.
The site was running slow this morning, but the BV Prez has posted an announcement that due to the increased traffic from the $1-sale, the system needed to be "tweaked." It appears to be back to normal now. BTW, I'd be REAL interested in knowing which categories you cruised through and found reserves.
as always,

I lost track I think I got a good 30 items up this morning, and it was running slow.
Going to go for some more this afternoon.
I think it's a good way to get exposure for all.
And agree, if they signed up,for the sale then it's no reserve, but doesn't stop somebody from putting a $ sign on and trying for it anyway. To each his own.
I'm having fun finding one or two things to buy just to buy for the fun of it.
Wallywog, where are your $ items, looked twice and didn't see any. Are you so tired from all this work you haven't had time.
I'm busy now letting my past customers know about the auction

Hi Joan:
Too stuck in updating the sale list page and answering e-mails, LOL.
I finally got a few listings up and the bids were coming as fast as I could list! Phew!!
Now I need to get a few more up but if my hubby gets home in time I'm taking him out for a belated Father's Day dinner. He spent all day yesterday helping his brother setting a house on a foundation then got home just in time to go help a neighbor fix his computer. Needless to say we didn't have much of a Father's Day.

I don't have any $1 items to sell!
Aren't you guys afraid of taking losses on all your items with 1 or 2 bids cast??? The items can't be selling for much.

Alot of us are taking losses on some of the items. But, it's all part of our commitment to attract buyers to the site.

Hope Bidville appreciates your martyrdom! Making sacrifices without any appreciation, and just as important follow-up advertising would make me MAD!!!

Why is it that if we lose some money on selling some of this stuff we're 'martyrs'? If what I hear from sellers on other sites is any indication, nearly everyone's losing money on their investments.
I've participated in sales like this before and have no problem with listing a few items that may bring less than what I paid for them. It helps me by reducing my inventory from time to time--no different than a store having a clearance sale. In fact, that's what got this one started. I wanted to have a clearance sale then got the idea to ask other sellers if they wanted to participate in an organized event.
I've said it before but I'll say it again--I'm completely amazed at the turn-out! I plum lost count after 100 of how many sellers signed up for this.
I think considering the cooperation and rolling out of new features we've seen from the owners they aren't just going to let this slide after it's all done. I looked at a lot of things as this is what I'd do if it was me and so far they've done exactly what I would've done.
Now if it was me I wouldn't want to be losing the new users I recently acquired and would want to be bringing in many more.
