Bidville's $1-SALE specifically ran from June 19 to July 2. The terms and conditions of participating in the event were given. Those that decided to participate did so voluntarily.
So here it is July 8 and there's still 1,260 $1-SALE auctions running!
THIS SMACKS OF FRAUD AND MISREPRESENTATION!
Auction sellers were required to close their $1-SALE auctions on July 3.
If they had listings with bids on that date and continue to leave them open, they have defrauded their WINNING bidders by eliciting further bids; if they have listings without bids and continue to leave them open, they are misrepresenting that the event itself is open.
Bidville should take immediate steps to (i) require the closing of all $1-SALE listings that remain open and (ii) suspend any auction seller that fails to do so.

There's a thread in Bidville's Gripes and Groans message boards titled 'People Can't Follow Simple Instructions' that is great reading. The sale was so sucessful for many sellers ( after the months of hardly any sales ) that they refuse to take down their $1-Sale titles. A regular palace revolt.

So, who cares? If the Bidville sellers are selling, that should be a good thing ... right?
As to the "fraud" issue, show me any on-line auction site that you believe is fraud-free and I will prove you wrong

In the case of the $1-SALE, its bidders that placed their bids prior to the end of the $1-SALE on July 2, and have since been outbid.

I believe the auctions that were active with bids on the last day should stay open till there closeing.
there is no fraud in listing items on any site with a starting bid of a dollar so if the seller want to continue listing with $1 start bid the dollar sale in the title should be removed.
The dollar sale ended on the 8th but if someone listed $1 item for the sale on the 7th they would naturally still be running days after the sale ends.

July 8
From the Bidville announcement:
The $1-Sale at Bidville has officially started. June 18th thru July 2nd, you will find thousands of items for sale with $1 starting bids and NO RESERVE prices.
For a site with few buyers whose auction sellers purportedly wanted the $1-SALE to attact a some new buyers that's certainly a excellent way to keep them, isn't it?
Let 'em bid on a "sale", but keep the auctions running after the end of the sale hoping for more bids.
And these same auction sellers expect they'll hang around?

I can't remember whether it was eBay or Yahoo who use to automatically extend the closing time if a bid was placed near the end.
That, IMHO, was dirty pool
"The $1-Sale at Bidville has officially started. June 18th thru July 2nd, you will find thousands of items for sale with $1 starting bids and NO RESERVE prices."
I'm trying to analyze this statement ... to find out where your problem is ... but I am obviously missing something here.
Did the items listed between June 18th and July 2nd have starting bids of $1?
Were there NO RESERVE prices?
Did the "rules" specify that all sales had to end on July 2nd regardless of whether there were any bids or not?

Not a all. Consider it a suggestion that would lend a measure of credibility to Bidville.
It seems fair to me that a seller that had an auction with a bid on it at the end of the $1-SALE would close that auction.
I did just that for the buyer of the last of my three $1-SALE items that were sold during the event.
Its called integrity.

RB,
I'd suggest you re-read the quote from Bidville. There's a period between "started" and the next sentence that begins with "From".
Moreover, the graphic on Bidville's homepage gave the $1-SALE dates, along with a separate page of category links, and all those images and links were removed at the conclusion of the sale.
Yet, the auctions continue.
Pathetic.

OK. Let's remove the first sentence completely which only specifies that the sale has started. We're left with this:
"June 18th thru July 2nd, you will find thousands of items for sale with $1 starting bids and NO RESERVE prices."
Which part of this statement, after the period, is being violated?
I'm not trying to be obtuse dim. I haven't read all the rules regarding this sale, but from what you have posted, I cannot see any rule that says the sale has to end on July 2nd.

The difference is between the $1-SALE and items that are listed as $1 SALE.
Wasn't the $1-SALE tag specifically selected to uniquely identify the promotional event?
Great idea, though. Put $1-SALE in auction titles from the get-go and hit that 99 relist button.
< LOL >
So now that $1-SALE has become a regular feature, what tag will be used for the next one?

Okay, when the idea for a dollar sale was proposed there was a search for a unique tage.
A search for $1 SALE (without the - ) returned lots of items, but a search of $1-SALE (with the - ) returned no items.
So $1-SALE became the unique tag for the event.
Now that auction sellers refuse to close their listings with the $1-SALE tag and are even continuing to list with the $1-SALE tag, it is no longer unique.
fixed UBB.

To all,
For the record, wallypog posted the complete terms and conditions for participating in the $1-SALE at Bidville.
Not on an AuctionWatch chatboard, but ... you know where.
You may want to re-read that too.

Just did ... thanks!
From your selected quote from wallypog's rules, I was having a hard time trying to figure out what your problem is.
Now I see that the deal was all auctions had to end on July 2nd. I am also reading "over there" that several items were listed WITH a reserve price.
Gotta wonder about some people's reading and comprehension skills eh
PS - I don't think I would call this fraud or misinterpretation ... rather just plain ignorance ...

Ah, but the comical aspect is found in clicking through some of those continuous $1-SALE auctions and taking at look at the auction sellers and auction bidders (after the sale officially ended) and finding a few of the Bidville Cheerleaders.
As Church Lady says, "Now isn't that special?"

It's my understanding the the sale was not necessarily sanctioned or organized by Bidville. The seller's came up with the idea and Bidville made a banner for them so items could be easily found. Bidville just went along with the idea. Does that mean that they should ban the use of the word $1-Sale in all auction titles now? Maybe it does but that would be silly and difficult to enforce.
Dim, probably what you are seeing is incessantly relisted items that will likely contain the $1-Sale titles for 99 postings.

dimview, I did not participate in the dollar sale, but you have got to be kidding. When Walmart puts a $500.00 air conditioner on sale for $419.00 for a week duration. And then they decide to extend it for another 2 days, because of a heat wave. Do you think people is going to whine. As much intelligence as you seem to hold. I would think you could put it to a better use.
Whine! Whine! Whine! Most people prefer a little "cheese" with their whine.

Dimview,
First I want to state that I don't have any sales runing with the $1-sale still in the title, just so people realize that I am not saying the following for personal reasons.
Now that that has been established, I'd like to know something.
WHEN DID YOU BECOME GOD, AND WHY WASN'T I TOLD ABOUT THE ELECTION?
"THIS SMACKS OF FRAUD AND MISREPRESENTATION!"
WHAT SMACKS OF FRAUD AND MISREPRESENTATION IS THE NUMBERS YOU HAVE CONTINUALLY POSTED ABOUT BIDVILLE ON THESE BOARDS, KNOWING THAT THE NUMBERS WERE FALSE.
"Auction sellers were required to close their $1-SALE auctions on July 3."
I NOTE THAT YOU HAD PREVIOUSLY USED THE WORD, "VOLUNTARILY".
NOWHERE, DID I SEE ANY "REQUIREMENT" THAT ANYONE HAD TO CLOSE THEIR AUCTIONS ON A CERTAIN DATE.
Bidville ran the link for the special sale for those dates on the front page. They removed the link on the third of July. there were also links in the auctions to a webpage with a list of the participating sellers.
What sellers were asked to do was list items for $1.00 starting bid with no reserve. (I am sorry to say that there are reports of some sellers placing reserves on their items, contrary to the $1-sale rules. From what I could tell, the vast majority of those auctions had no reserve. most of the sellers complied.)
Sellers were also asked to not just list items that only had a $1.00 value.
"If they had listings with bids on that date and continue to leave them open, they have defrauded their WINNING bidders by eliciting further bids; if they have listings without bids and continue to leave them open, they are misrepresenting that the event itself is open."
This sale was a learning experience for everyone. Upon realizing that people may have been expecting to win by midnight on July,2, I closed the auctions I had running with bidders on the morning of July, 3.
However, each auction clearly states the closing times on the auction page.
"Bidville should take immediate steps to (i) require the closing of all $1-SALE listings that remain open and (ii) suspend any auction seller that fails to do so."
THANK YOU FOR TELLING SOMEONE HOW THEY SHOULD RUN THEIR SITE.
WHILE WE ARE AT IT, AUCTION WATCH SHOULD FOLLOW THEIR OWN CG's AND IMMEDIATELY SUSPEND YOU FOR THIS INFLAMMATORY AND DEFAMATORY THREAD.
I, FOR ONE, INTEND TO CONTACT THE AW MODERATORS AND REQUEST SUCH ACTION. IT IS MY HOPE THAT ALL BIDVILLE MEMBERS WILL DO LIKEWISE. YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE THE "BE ALL" AND "KNOW ALL" OF AUCTION SITES AND SELLING. WELL, YOU'RE NOT.

jimhhow,
Auction sellers voluntarily signed-up at Bidville, they are bound by the terms of service.
Shouldn't those same auction sellers that voluntarily signed-up for the $1-SALE also be bound by the terms and conditions of the event?

Quite frankly, I enjoy playing around with the existing data and then making various estimations. When I make them available, auction sellers decide whether or not to use them as part of their own evaluations of the alternative auction sites.
As for the $1-SALE, I thought Bidville had a valuable commodity in that moniker, unfortunately a handful of auction sellers decided to greatly diminish its value.
To preserve the value of that moniker, I continue to suggest that Bidville require the removal of the $1-SALE tag from all auctions and suspend those few users that fail to do so.
