With all the contention about people not adhering to strict rules regarding The earlier $1.00 sale at Bidville, I wanted to make it clear that the dates for the upcoming Sportmania sale there are flexible.

We are not working with strict rules for this event, rather we are using SUGGESTED GUIDELINES.

As one of the principle organizers of this event I realize that each seller must run their own auctions according to what is best for their schedule. So there will be a front page link from August 25 through August 31, but I expect that many of these auctions will be running through Labor Day.

There are some that have already started in fact, and that is fine. Not everyone uses a bulk loader, and demands on everyone's time is different.

Please be sure to check each auction's description page for the closing time and date on that particular auction.

Also be aware that although we have stressed, and very strongly requested NO RESERVE Auctions for this event, again, there is no way to make any seller comply. We do hope this will be an enjoyable experience for all.

I Thank you all in advance for your understanding.

I hope this is not considered too promotional, this event has been discussed on these boards previously and I just wanted to make some clarifications regarding the suggested guidelines.

I tried to access BV at 1:30 est to check out my first days views/sales and got this message

"BidVille is currently offline for unscheduled server maintenance.
We will be back online by 3:00 am EDT.
We appreciate your patience."

What does this mean, that their servers cannot handle the load? Not only can't I check my auctions but I can't browse the others. Almost every day I tried to access the site during the $1 sale in June I got either this page cannot be displayed or server too busy errors. I was hoping they had figured out what caused those difficulties and corrected them by now. Most of the time I got those errors were 9-11 pm est which is probably a very high traffic time for any site. At this hour I am surprised they will be down this long. Oh well, let's hope whatever they are working on will be enough to keep the site operational at all times this week.

uptoolate, or uptolate can't remember. It is nothing to be alarmed about. Bidville does the server maintenance every morning from 4:00 to 4:30 a.m. EST every morning. It is unusual for them to do this, this early. Hillbilly

Hey Hillbilly
Well they were still down when I checked back at 3:15. My last check was at 4:00, they were finally up but only for 10 minutes. Then they went down with the msg of the usual maintenance from 4:10 to 4:30 that they do every night. It looked like most of the community posts had stopped about 12:45 so I guess that's when they went down. The msg until at least 3:15 said "offline for unscheduled server maintenance". That does indicate a problem.

YUP! possibly a couple bumps in the road can be expected. I hear even the great 'Bay has this type of problem once in a while.

YUP! Bumps can be expected. A distinct difference, however, is that eBay has lots of bids and even more pageviews, so the reason for any outage at Bidville would be somewhat interesting.

BTW, yesterday I could use search with the keyword "sportmania" to get more than 9,000 listings. This morning, I get this:

Your search returned over 3000 results. The first 3000 can be viewed here.

Does that mean potential bidders and viewers are no longer able to browse through the remaining 6,000 plus listings?

Was that the "fix" for the outage?

YIKES!

HI Dimview, any chance you could try to stay on topic please?

But no, the 3000 item thing was there yesterday afternoon.

Then how do I know there were something on the order of 9,600 sportmania listings?

And how do you know there are more than 3,000 sportmania listings?

Might there only be 3,001 sportmania listings?

I thought that stats and auction counts belonged in another thread?

Now you are obviously just baiting.

Moderator, please lock this thread as it is off topic relating to the flexible dates, and there is obviously nothing more to discuss in that vein. Thank you.
