Oddly enough, recently I notified AW that a person I knew here had multiple id's for the purpose of posting. After about three emails, I finally got the AW person to understand what I was talking about. She then told me it was ALLOWED! I could never understand why anyone would WANT multiple ID's. The person I was trying to tell them about is strangely, the same person who told me that lots of people have multiple id's on ebay, bidbay, and other auction sights. I was stunned! I thought this was against all the rules. She said one was for bidding and one for selling. Personally I like to sell and bid under the same name. My name is not EVE or SYBIL, I may have mood swings at times, but I think only one name and personality. So if bidbay is pumping their numbers, it is no more wrong than those who find it necessary to have several id's. You think?

mzkittie,

Having more than one AuctionWatch ID is allowed, but each member is only allowed ID to use for posting purposes.

Hope this clarifies.

Pat

Kittie~~I was not the person who had the conversation with you regarding multiple ID's. But there are reasons for legitimate multiple ID's on auction sites. One would be if you are a seller who collects what you sell~~you would not want to bid on auctions against your own buyers. Another is for folks who specialize in more than one area~~you get more bids if you only list like type items and become recognized as a dealer of only those like type items~~thus repeat business and higher bids. So some folks get an ID for each specialty. Also there are others who value their privacy and have a seperate ID for buying as they don't want their customers to know what they are bidding on. I fully appreciate the ability to have more than one ID on auctions sites, as I use them successfully for legitimate purposes.

Hiya SEABHS,

I only have one at AW unlike some people I know that have multiple ID's and use them to troll the boards especially at sites they get kicked off of.

Edited for spelling.

Hiya Coolvette

I have only one on AW also, one on eBay for selling, one for buying and one on BidBay for selling, and one for buying there too.

I also have one on tbay, one on OTWA and one on honesty, one on edeals and I used to have one on Gold's but that's useless now. Oh yeah, one on epier, but it seems they're gone now too. And my one on Yahoo and Amazon match the others, one for bidding - one for selling. There was another site long ago that began with a U, but that didn't last too long.

I guess it matters not that my "poll" as it's called was taken today or last year. I've been on the Q&A at ebay for almost 3 years and just about everyone there has more than one ID.

Don't know why people should be stunned by this fact. It's a well known fact of online auctions.

There are others who have several ID's on AW, but they give out their friends names and addresses, one being in Anchorage, Alaska .. but of course this person in Alaska has an answering machine. They think they've covered all bases, but when it comes down to it, the name is really a cyberstalking troll.

Hiya mntmama,

I was reading the thread you started earlier today. Really nothing on it I haven't heard before. There are many good reasons why multiple ID's are used at auction sites. There are also bad reasons as I'm sure you know.

One bad reason is posting as an anonymous coward.(example right above your post) This anonymous coward however was exposed and they now are trying to cover up their tactics.

What really amazes me is they believe that we take as the truth on what they say.

I've seen it many times.

We are not fools. Both of us have been posting on boards for years. It's as clear as a pane of glass. LOL

Take care and try to stay warm. I know you got a bunch of snow out your way.
~Vette~

Edited for typo.
