I was just reading some of the messages in the BV message center and what a soap opera.
I finally got to one combative thread that had this BidVille Prez post:
Bidville loses many good sellers because of issues arising on the boards. They are rarely lost for any other reason and that is very discouraging.
The Nov 6th date came and went without a hitch (sorta like the Y2K scare). Listings are going up again. Sales are admittedly slow but have not dropped off in months.
Perhaps we should consider closing the boards for a while. It`s a shame to lose so many good sellers like this.
Let me know what you think.

I think Brian was just giving them a slap on the hands (behave children).
I for one would hate to see those forums close, even for a day. AW couldn't handle the onslot of the disgrunted bidvillers.

Who says bidvillers would come over here? AW has been around awhile, even before bidville, and they didn't come over here.

You missed the Cheerleading section here at AW? They even had pom poms. A bowling team versus cheerleaders, very good stuff.
Anyway, I just figured out why Boss Bryan posted the suggestion. Very popular BVers are quarreling now. Since almost all selling that is done on BV is among the established sellers these public quarrels cause hurt feelings and old members are leaving BV. That has to cut into the number of bids made on BV and it's meager bottom line.
I think one of those popular members will soon feel the wrath of the dog pack. Broken drinking holders everywhere.

They can't close the boards!!!!
They have the same effect as the Jerry Springer show. Just when you think your life is screwed up, you go to Bidville and you realize that you are nowhere near as screwed up as some other people.
Come to think of it, maybe Bidville is where Springer gets his guests.

Dont worry the only thing they have is the message board from the looks of it. They are probally mad about yahoo's new fees. If they close their boards they should shut down the site.

The post from Bidville Prez was signed Bryan. Prez better hit the Prozac a bit harder. He is suffering from mulitple personality disorder. I can't believe any intelligent person could work for him.

Boss Bryan uses the Prez's account a lot as he really is the guy running the show. If suzie got 45 supportive emails I believe JB is in some hot water. The roll call thread looks like a 3 to 1 women to men ratio.
I believe HB and the others are correct, kill the boards and risk some very major consequences. Too late Bryan, the tiger is out of the cage and there is no way you will ever get it back in there. Your only option is to inrease monitoring the boards ( HB called it right again, as usual ) and get stricter with the rules about posting deadbeats names and any negative posts about other BVers. Eddie is probably sipping a Margarita on a Polynesian isle somewhere while Bryan is pulling double shifts.

Either that or He's changing bed pans in the Hicksville Hospital (workin' his way back up to the top of the health care pecking order). After all, He does have an "Almost A Doctor" thingy.
can't believe I just said that, but, it is early ...

From what I am reading at another forum, Bryan is the guy doing all the work at Bidville ... he doesn't have time to do the bed pans. I still think that's where Steady Eddy is

So I don't get it, who wants the boards close. Ed the Idiot or Bryan? The boards are a double edge sword. They cause chaos but they also help the sellers there.

How do they help the sellers? Last time I was there, I didn't see any help being offered to anyone. As a matter, any advice that was logical but went against the Ozark mentality was met with flaming and eventual banishment of the person who was trying to help.
If it's new sellers who need help, I suggest the fix to this is a complete rewrite of the current rules and regulations and some kind of FAQ page. It doesn't have to have the scope of an eBay (where attending 'eBay University' is a must to be able to figure out all their nonsense), but there should be enough there to answer the most common questions.
The venue could also use a little more active and equitable enforcement of the rules. It's painfully obvious that at Bidville, all pigs are not created equal.
If you want to see how an auction forum should work, check out the Carnaby Chat Forum. Much nicer attitude there, and the members seem to respect each other a little more.
I think the BV forums should be deleted, at least for a little while until the inmates have realized that they no longer have an audience of their peers and they go somewhere else.
Wait ... they could come here!!!!! (HAL - Please remove last statement ...)

Well I cant argue with much of that. The fact that my threads leading to my suspension were removed and several of the same type are allowed to stay show things are not equal there. The shamless plugs board is of use to sellers.. Perhaps the social boards are the ones that should be removed. I dont know. Since Ed the Idiot suspended me I dont pay much attention to Bidville since it is not a good use of my time to worry about a site that cant help my business. I dont quite understand why this Bryan if he is a real person did not create his own ID but I dont understand alot that goes on there. I am glad to see mnay of the good sellers there are going to give Yahoo a chance. Maybe after they sell some stuff there, they will stay there. I want my friends to prosper no matter what site it is on.

RB,
I do agree with you on some of your points. In response to the request for opinions by Bidville, my opinion was that the boards should be shut down. I have found them recently to have very little actual discussion of auction issues. I guess I don't find discussion of trolls to be very enlightning. If the site were to institute real moderation and interaction on the boards (response to questions), then they would remain valuable. I do agree that the FAQ and help sections need to be improved if you judge them by the number of posts for help that are made.
For both Robs,
Thanks alot for reminding me that I first read 1984 when it seemed to be the distant future.

I think the entire message center should be shut down and replaced with an extensive FAQ section. But I also agree with HillyBilly's assessment that if they shutdown the message center there will be hell to pay by BidVille. BV message boards are an addictive daily stop(s) for dozens of BVers, both posters and lurkers alike, and since selling items there is as rare as Haley's Comet that leaves the message center as the sole reason for many users to remain there at all.

I would just like to comment that what I stated was in a thread should the meesage boards be shut down. My answer probably was not very popular. I said that they should keep the message boards, but that they should be monitered more closely. I know that many Buyer's & Seller's use the boards to get good information towards auctioning. Yes! The boards is very addicting. I do truly believe that if they are closed, that is it for Bidville. I have always stated that the message boards should be seperate from the auctioning world. Many good honest to goodness Buyer's & Seller's have been tossed because of the opinions they gave on the message boards. The way they spat their opinions has not one fraction to do with how they buy and sale. If a person gets out of line, I believe their posting privelages should be removed for awhile. But not suspension for buying and selling. I have lost a lot of good customers over this rule. But!! I can't change a thing. I might be considered a senior over at Bidville, but I have as much pull as a freyed rope. I have bumped heads with numerous people at Bidville over my opinions. But that is just me. I stated from the beginning as long as Bidville is in business, I will ride the waves. If Bidville fails or I get suspended, I'll just jump on another ship, or become solely a buyer for my hobby. I also stated that I used to have a customer that hit the bottle quite a bit. He would come into my store and try to sell me some cards. That I already had tons of. He would call me me a no good S.O.B. I would just laugh at him and throw him out. A couple of times we even got physical. But hey! This man spent $500.00 a month buying cards. And as everybody probably already knows, the Hillbilly loves money. Anytime you have a business you have to eat some s--t. At least I have every business I ever had. That is why I try to have patience. I got an e-mail the other day. Hillbilly, why do you even go to Auction Watch? My reply was not to bash Bidville. But I have friends over there that ain't allowed at Bidville. Simply put. Hillbilly

Many of the users may very well move their buying/selling to other third tier auction sites that did have a message center. There would be so many message center refugees that whichever site got the nod would soon have a message center full of BVers.
Also, many would lose interest in posting new auctions to BV or buying there. Remember, about 70% to 80% of the message center posts are by female members and they will not tolerate the loss of their favorite soap opera "As Bidville Turns". "Will JB prevail over SuzieT?" , "Will Kodiak return?" "Is Vulture really a vegetarian?" "Will Sissy be able to kick the vodka habit?" ad naseum.

I read the user boards all over. Ebay, bidville, B*bay, sellyouritem, carnaby, etc.
The pattern I see where there is a problem on the message boards, is where the CEO/Prez/Owner post on a regular basis and try to be part of the group.
They don't adhere to their own rules, so the users follow suit.
Either that, or it's just auction sites that start with the letter B have a problem. Could the B somehow be the cause?

The verification kicked in 5 days ago. There is an effect on the message center. Apparently no new users have chosen to pay to have their credit card number verified and handled by a med school dropout as there have been none or next to none of the Hi, I'm new here! posts that once were so common. How can an auction site hope to survive without new users?
Do any of the other third tier sites have this pay-for-cc-verification setup? Carnaby? Why is BV is dirt poor?

Bidville closing it's boards would be a public service and in the interest of common welfare everywhere.
I hope they do the right thing, and close the Bidville boards.
