This is being posted at both bulletin boards that I read...AW and the Moo.
Most posters here realize that they are small fish in a large lake. Some on the other hand, believe they are Shamu in a pond! These posters won't and haven't changed anyone's opinions and just like to stir the sh*t. Why you like to continue? There are several theories. I believe some posters have access to several servers and use a least several different id's. You are not invisible, I have one id here and at AW. The truth of the matter is, that it is very hard to keep up the deceptions for very long (and one poster knows this personally, now).
I am sure by now, we are all aware that Bidville is going to keep running along the same path they started, perhaps with little or no advertising (who knows), so no one is going to change anything by the continued rantings. Most posters that post here, are here because they have something in common - online auctions. We learn from each other and help each other. That is the purpose of the online auction boards. The boards have shown me where I could find the free delivery confirmation, when sites are down (so I do not think it is on my end), FLD's, etc... Why can't we go back to that? I am sure if someone were to start a poll, that is what most posters would want. The name calling is immature, and yes, I have been a part of that. I was tired of being attacked, listening to others be critized and listening to the same tune over and over. My mother told me not to get married so young, but here I am in my 22nd year of marriage. Everyone needs to follow their own course, and if you do not have one, find one.
I like doing auctions, it kills some time and gives me some play money. I do not need the money to live on and that is why I choose the so-called third tier sites. Ebay is great for some and Bidville is okay for me. Dimview, what is wrong with that? I think questioning site policy is fine, but when one has to start several topics all with the same question, what is the point? It seems like someone is just wanting to bask in the sunlight.
I offer this Peace Pipe with good intentions. I do want to say that if I am attacked or my ways of selling are attacked I will fight back. That is my human nature, I did not have an ideal childhood and I have fought hard to be where I am at. I am a furiously loyal wife, mother and friend (in real life and will be to my online friends as well). The funny thing is some of us (myself included) presume to know other posters, when in fact, we most likely do not know. I find it amazing that we will post about infidelity, one's character, one's looks or appearances. Give me a break....we do not know! I will not attack unless I am attacked, from this thread on. If you see me attack, know that I did not start it, but I will take it all the way down the field if that is the way you want to play the game.
P.S. The Peace Pipe does not have "wacky tobaccy"! LOL
After reading this thread and the salon web article that started the thread I have decided to avoid even visting Mooo since it is really nothing more than a big flame war. The Canadians are free from worry about some wealthy jerk suing them but the rest of us are all open to what happened in the web article. Mooo disparately needs an ignore function like the one here at AW. Mooo had potential for becoming a clearing house for online auction information but instead turned into mostly forums with very nasty flame wars. I have noticed that most of the really knowledgeable posters no longer hardly post there at all and that is a shame.
I still quickly scan the BV boards but that is mostly to see how the love birds of Sissy and Bee are doing. I wish them luck but somewhat cringe at all the wedding plans since they have only really met a few days ago. Slow down you guys, the ga-ga phase of any relationship will wear off soon enough.

TNA www.topnotchauctions.com has community boards? That's good, a very nice feature. Good Luck John. We've spared over the past few months but I've always considered you to be a good Joe.

Kodi, did you see my post in the other thread ....?
---------------------------------
Kodi, I like your idea of possibly starting an oline auction especially for Alaskans. That falls into the favorable niche auction realm. With the new postal hikes being based on distance and weight that would give any regional auctionsite a big boost. At the very least you could use it to list your own items. There are 635,000+ people in Alaska so there are many potential buyers/sellers.

I haven't gotten around to reading anything, been in and out all day How have you been bidsbids? I was reading a few of your posts in the Yahoo forum the other night, good stuff.
I think you are right, for all those same reasons too. I have to learn the software ( looks easy) myself and understand all the ins and outs before I do anything. Advertising up here would be achievable too. UPS is even an option here for shipping between the larger cities. Heck even Kodiak has a big UPS office. Thanks for the encouragement!
Tell you one thing it won't have: a message board.

Kodi: hehehehehe on the message board.
if one is handled properly I think it is helpfull to the site.
As far as an auction just for in any state. I am working on that in my site by zip code. Then we also are going to utilize the map on sportcardshops as it can list anyone that has something for sale and then you can email the owner directly...
I have also though or makeing the categories into states.. and in each state putting in all the different categories. but doing it that way is a hole lot of work and trying to figer out how well it would work all by myself don't work to good.

The sportscards part of online online will probably not be hit as hard as heavier items by the new postal rates zone crud. There are boxes and cases and complete sets and stuff that will be affected by a card or two or ten can go First Class and shouldn't be affected by the new zone structure.
John, you are illustrating how people and auction sites will probably try to adapt to the steep rate hikes, and that's good. I bet eBay will have links to the new Priority Mail postage calculations on almost every page and several tutorials on how to use it. The new rate structure will be a huge obstacle for auction sites, sellers and bidders.
Kodi, the huge size and somewhat isolated position of the 49th state ( what's the state nickname? Aloha State? Just Kidding ) make it a prime candidate for a niche or specialty online auction site. If you don't do it someone else might. Like John says, a message board setup can be very helpful to an auction site if it is done properly. I have seen three different message centers for online auctions or related sites: Carnaby, BV, and Mootropolis. Carnaby has the best setup as they are fair yet rule with a stern rules. Next is Bidville's setup, very light moderation but suspensions for severe infractions and misuse. Then Moo, although moderated, it is much too lenient and liberal and Paddy let the site turn into a nuthouse that the inmates have set ablaze. I can see now that it is possible to be too lenient and liberal.

It's "The Last Frontier", booger.LOL
Someone did try an Alaska Auction site, but didn't put any effort into it and it faded away. I bought a nice dresser off that site when we first moved here to Wasilla from Kodiak. People were interested in buying but there wasn't enough for sale, imagine that.
Also, I am an exception to the rule about Alaskans and online auctions. I bid on and buy all kinds of different things. People here are pretty specific about what they want. My husband is always showing up at work with new 18 and 24v DeWalt tools and the guys were all jealous, we told them about ebay. (They knew it was there but thought it was for million dollar antiques or something.lol) Now the guys are coming in with new power tools all the time and the other guys all sit and ooh and ahh.LOL
JB yes I see you are trying to do that but it is an obscure site. My idea would be for one centered completely around Alaskans needs. The size of the state and the isolation of many of the villages calls for some special attention to shipping issues. A bush pilot has to fly in supplies to many areas. I am looking into who flies to the villages and what their schedules are, load limits etc. A lot of thinking goes into an idea like this. You can't build something small and rinky dink ( not that TNA is) or Alaskans just giggle and move on.

Alaska
Alaska is called “The Last Frontier”, because of its opportunities and many lightly settled regions, and the “Land of the Midnight Sun”, because the sun shines nearly around the clock during Alaskan summers.
-------------
Almost half of the people live in Fairbanks though? The remote locations might have people starved for an auction site, especially one with lots of Buy It Now prices. People "up there" probably have much fewer shopping options and mail order must be much more popular than in it is in the lower 48. If the auction site could save them a lot with reduced s/h costs in the coming postal hikes ( and the coming UPS/FedEx hikes as well ) then that should be a big plus. The reduced s/h costs would come from Alaskans selling to Alaskans and less distance for the items to actually travel.
Still, not an easy task to undertake by any means.
Aloha

In my "native tongue" they say Camai (pronounced chuh-my)
Yes the most populated areas are Fairbanks and Anchorage. There are many other areas that are growing rapidly too. The Mat-Su Valley has about 65,000 people spread amongst various towns.
However, we still have Wal-Mart,K-Mart, Fred Meyer,J.C. Penney, Lamonts etc. So there would still be some obstacles to overcome as K-Mart and Wal-Mart both do bush orders.
I sure do love the serenity here, I can't begin to tell you how peaceful it is. Spring is in the air today, I can't wait to get back to working on the cabin.
The auction site should I decide to go forward with it will certainly be a handfull. Wintertime I am inside all the time but summer I am outside, so we'll see what becomes of it.
