Mootropolis.com has started the voting for the monthly Top Ten Auction Sites by members, apparently mostly smaller to mediums sites.

Even AuctionDiner is included. This should get interesting. LOL!

Since I no longer frequent the Moo, I'll cast my ballot here.

1) Carnaby
2) Three Old Ladies
3) Sell Your Item
4) Gegy ( just kidding)

The rest are not worthy as Wayne and Garth would say.

looking at the current poll results thus far are kind of interesting.

My personal criteria for voting was first and foremost to cast a yay vote for site which have rep's on hand to answer user questions, so SYI, Carnaby, Romahawk, 3oldladies as well as Pricefire and Bidroo got a nod from me.

Those sites which haven't had site reps got a thumbs down.

I did notice that Carnaby is getting a lot of no & undecided votes, and that's kind of interesting since with their new sweepstakes being recently launched, I'd have thought there would be a little more involvement in that forum.

I also notice JB seems to be paying the price for his little mishap from last weeks post in the auctioncow thread.

Hang in there Roma...there's still time for you to pull it out

Bidville is a warehouse for low quality items so they fit into another catagory.

caffeitalia:

Lycos isn't going to have auctions any longer shortly. Check out the link over at Moo about how they are shutting down the auction listings at the end of the month.

PlayerAuctions:

You are in the voting over at Moo, and I even voted YES to your site. Very nice site.

This notice is pasted on the Lycos auction site...Looks like soon it will be Ebay or NoWay....

IMPORTANT:
On May 10th Lycos Auctions will be replaced with a site powered by eBay. We will no longer be accepting bids or listings beginning April 30th. Any listings open on the close date will be closed without winners. Any pending bids may remain open, depending on the close date of the auction. We encourage you to re-register at the "eBay on Lycos site" .

THE RULES
Pick your Yes for the Top Ten sites, and your NO sites. If you can decide on a site, vote Undecided. You should vote for all 21 sites posted, whether you want them to become one of the top ten or not.

Now according to the rules every site should have the same TOTAL COUNT.
I wonder what could have caused the number to be so far off.

I stand corrected about Lycos then. I had some luck there, but utilized the many list option there and hadn't read any of there postings lately and I was unaware of the site dropping. When I sell an item there, I went directly to the item to the bidding info. Too bad as they had many small sites sharing there site allowing many others to see all the listings. I guess I only have a top 4 list then.

Uh, you don't have to vote for every site unless you WANT to do so.

There are new members all the time at Mootropolis.com. If you want to welcome them, you would have to join Moo, not wish them well here.

Nice thread, I see we are making progress in our uphill climb to get noticed. We get around 400 new visits from the search sites each month.

Good luck to the other niche sites!

Hi ThreeOldLadies, I was watching a TV program a while back about a women's club in England that came up with a very successful annual fundraising campaign and perhaps you gals could use the same type of angle to get viewers to your new site.

Well, I voted in all of the polls--figured it was only fair. After all, I do have my favorites so it wasn't hard to pick 10 of them, even if I don't use all of those sites all the time.

My votes were based on my personal experiences with their customer service (for favorites) and based on the same plus my other perceptions of the sites for non-favorites. I did take into account the reps being at Moo, too, since I figure if there's an active rep they sure deserve more attention.

BTW, Romahawk, I voted 'yes' for your site, too. It has a good beat and it's easy to dance to.

auroranorth...those are only YOUR preferences ranking the sites you listed and not based on any actual facts so you might want to add that in case some don't know those are only your own opinion

About the vote...I wonder if the sites that win the top ten of the month will actually display the award banner they win and if not I wonder if they will be included in the next vote....curious minds want to know...lol

Pony, of course those are my preferences and viewpoint what else could I legitimatly write about ? would you expect me to take someone elses word with out credentials and repeat what they said like gospel ?
And I am not picking on you I would like to know your version of what I have listed, I do know that there are a few third tier sites I have not dealt with and I should have added one with a spanish name as the worst taste in naming an auction, I have not spent a lot of time at bidville but I will be adding more there later and I would love to see more activity out of ebayexodus.com as ity sits now the big site feels free to do as it pleases even when it flaunts the law
I have these local Vietnam vets they dont have much but they do have machine skills so they take these bvulets and remove the primer and replace it with a fake primer then the powder comes out and they drill the bullet to attach a one hit pipe that goes back inside the when you reattach the bullet to the shell, Now I dont smoke anything anymore I used to pay corporate america to newport my lungs, but when I listed the pipe for these guys as the amazing bullet bong ebay again cancelled the sale, no where in the ad did I advocate now have I ever (except in the case of a president who did not inhale)advocate the use of drugs or pot, I did say what a perfect way it was to hide the emergency tobacco from the kids, well meg whitman's stromtroopers walmartized the sale. (cancelled like a Confederate flag). so I felt that this was unwarrented and heavy handed gestapo tactics, ebay has been guffing a lot laltely about her ethics and patriotism the fact is that under holidays she does not have the fourth of july, labor day memorial day or veterans day what she has become is another corp weiner just waiting to bend someone over. lately that means the sellers. Then there is the pimple faced goons at lycos who cancel an auction that many sellers had thousands of hours into
or how about the bite mes at fairnmarket who let all of the sales go with out a corporate wimperlast time I ever trust those pussbags. Now then Yahoo is not the numbner two site when it comes to auctions that honor clearly belongs by a long shot to amazon. which has also managed to eliminate almost every deadbeat bidder in the last 3 months too, way to go Bezos keep it coming ! the surprise in the lot has to be gunbroker also called forthehunt.com they produce sales on a regular basis. I tried carnaby only to get a notice they merged then have the new site tell me is was a memebr but when I tried to access to list want all of the info inc cc all over again then these guys ask for upc codes what if the items does not have one ? duh.

It appears that many here are apparantly obsessed with bidville. Even though they would never consider the site worthy of a positive vote, they definitely make a big point of casting a verbal negative for the site and in some cases doing so repeatedly. This type of compulsive behavior is the behavior on which theses, books and careers are made.

auroranorth...the reason I made my comment was simply because you started out by saying "auctions rated by the number of sales they produce" and your observations were nicely listed almost as statistical information rather than just personal opinion...that was all

Also "And I am not picking on you I would like to know your version of what I have listed" my version of what you printed means nothing since your post is based on "your" sales and I don't sell the same items as you so "my" picks might be vastly different and based on nothing more. I guess my picks are the sites that make me money..eBay being the #1 for doing that for me but since they aren't included in the "VOTE" the rest are just a matter of preference based on the items you sell and where you're happy selling them...most of the smaller sites are only based on likes rather than sales since not many (didn't say all) can make any sort of living selling off all the small tiered sites combined no matter how well they do

DreamGirl,
It appears that many here are apparantly obsessed with bidville

That may be true but the same is true for the overly staunch BV supporters. The same is true for diehard Democrats and diehard Republicans. It is all part of basic human nature. It's not amazing it's basic.

Do you rationalize deviency and sociopathy as basic human nature also?

Cuff rants and raves with the best of them when it comes down to deviency and sociopathy and of course her forte, paranoia. The Hindus and Musilums & the Israelis and Palestinians go a step or two further and actually endeavour to kill each other.
If the BVers and anti-BVers would ignore each other there would be no problem. But basic human nature takes over and they argue harshly and sometimes take things to extremes. Sometimes the fights are nothing more than Animal House food fights and sometimes they genuinely try to hurt each others feelings.

what I posted was based on facts on hard sales I made at those sites those are statisitcs, I strongly suspect that the reason people go to the auction sites and list is because they want to sell, auction arms ebang gunbroker epier and bidville do produce sales enough to warrent my time there
ebay produces money for people who want to tell me what i can and cant do screw them.
I know that some dont like bidville, and others dont like epier, what I cant undertsand is all the hype about dead sites like carnaby when gunbroker rocks with more sales than frigging yahoo, a newer one gunshowauction is also a nice little nich site. come on credit where credit is due I see sellers making a decent number of sales over at that aquarium auction too, when you guys talk about mistakes ebay taking on any of the clowns who could not make a go of the fair market network is exactly the type of thing that could level the field, and dont forget amazon is now a clear number two by a long shot, at any given time I have over 12,000 sales running Amazon rocks I dont know what happened there in the last 6 months but Keep it Up, and Pony why wont you post your version of what I posted ? is it some big secret or ancient family recipe or what ?

Carnaby is a general online auction site and the 'Rambo' sites you lissted are specialized or niche sites. That truly is comparing apples to oranges.
The third tier sites can almost be neatly divided into two classifications ... either general or specialized. I personally think the specialized sites have the best prospects for surviving in the long term picture of things. eBay has about seven million items but it is spread out over thousands of categories. That makes them somewhat vulnerable to specialized sites gaining a market share.
