New site created by ex ebay powerseller. http://www.freebooters.com Not related any way to the site. It looks nice; penny listings in August; incentive awards for feedback and more. Worth a look.

Even the very low price of only a penny is much too high for an unestablished auction site. Why pay a penny and then more after August 31st to list when there are so many other auction sites that do not charge? Best of luck with your site.

It's not my site, and I already said I am not related to it.

Why would you want to pay vs list on a free site? Have you ever heard of, "you get what you pay for"? How do those free sites pay for advertising. Word of mouth means nothing once there is already a category leader.

There's other pay for listing sites which in my opinion are dull and have no catch. Freebooters looks at least a little interesting. I'm not making any predictions, I'm not even listing on freebooters, but it is worth looking at and considering after you have tried all the other worthless sites.

I would not waste my time on a no listing fee site. They never have any kind of the required traffic needed to sell items. For quality items Yahoo's 5+ cents and ebay's 30+ cents listing fees are a steal because the seller can actually sell his goods because there are buyers there.

For an upstart auction site to charge any kind of listing fee is shear folly as far as I can see.

Anybody who is looking to start an auction site should look at Bidville. When yahoo started charging insertion fees sellers left in mass to bidville, BUT they could not get the bidders to follow. So now the site has a very low sell-thru rate(mostly seller based), and cant afford to advertise, or fix the site. Yahoo for the price is a good site to sell on if you offer high-demand items. Some items sell well, and others dont.

Don't you agree that it is foolish to charging any kind of a listing fee for a brand new site? A fee on sold goods is in order but not for unsold goods.

Like Jay Leno said to the Brit Hugh Grant after he got caught with the LA hooker, "What were you thinking!?"

I disagree, price shouldn't be a focal point. There's no profit in free. Create something that ebay can't duplicate. There are dozens of problems on ebay that a competitor could exploit, and by doing so people may be willing to pay for it. It also can't follow the mistakes of other third tier sites of just going after sellers. They need to get buyers too and that means creating something attractive.

Ebay is such a mess I can't imagine why buyers would not flee to a better layout site.

You disagree. That means that you agree that the site is correct to charge a listing fee from the start even though it is totally unknown?
A site will that plan of attack is a sure goner in my opinion.

If you believe in a site, invest in it. Being one of the first sellers will get you a lot of recognition. Of course I think there should be free relists, so if you invested $50, it's a nice risk with good potential reward. It helps if you know the owner will market the site and grow.

Why does the site name not inspire confidence?

There are perhaps as many as 2,000 of these very small online auction sites. Should a person invest $50, it's a nice risk with good potential reward in all of them and hope for a winner somewhere?
Power Sellers may have their heads in the clouds?

Robertsmithson:

2000 what on freebooters.com? 2000 members? 2000 auctions?

I would find that hard to believe 2000 members considering there aren't that many auctions listed and even some of the sites that list 30,000 auctions have only a few hundred members. I clicked through nearly all the categories and saw very little listed there, maybe as much as 200 items.

Not to mention there is only about 13 featured auctions.

quickdraw:

I would have to agree with the others that this is just another small auction site put together as quicly as possible and trying to charge for it in hopes of being the next eBay. It has been tried before and NONE have ever accomplished it. It would take a lot more than just spamming the AuctionWatch boards.

IMO.

What a stupid question!

Should you invest $50 in a million products to sell on ebay and hope some hit it big?

Should you invest in all the thousands of stocks and hope a few hit it big?

Or should you research and find the one's with potential?

Your Designs: He said 2000 small auction sites. Can you read?

"I would have to agree with the others that this is just another small auction site put together as quicly as possible and trying to charge for it in hopes of being the next eBay. First, Free Booters didn't spam AW, I started the thread. Second, I tend to agree with you that this site lacks any real planning. However, it stands a part a little from the other because it doesn't have a copycat name (examples: Epier; Bidville; Aucton Pie). FreeBooters is a name derived from Pirates i.e. Treasures. Clever. It also has some decent incentives for sellers, and since they are charging they may be agood sign that there is a real business plan to grow and beome profitable.

Those are some of the things I wanted to address by posting this website.

I'm not necessarily sugeesting invest $50 in this site, but invest if you feel it has potential. If you only go with sites that have 200,000 listings we'll never get a good second tier site to sell or buy on.

You originally said Of course I think there should be free relists, so if you invested $50, it's a nice risk with good potential reward

Do you see the folly of your original statement? You act like $50 and a lot of time spent listing items on an unknown site is a petty thing.
