Anyone know anything about a "UNIVIS Presbyopic Trial Set"? I have one in original black leather hardcase. It's missing 2 lenses but otherwise is complete and in excellent condition.
Looks like '40s/'50s era.
Haven't been able to find any online reference for this...or its value...or ???

As one ages, the capsule & suspensory ligaments of the human crystaline lens become less elastic, thus making it more difficult to focus at NEAR! THIS is PRESBYOPIA.
To correct, folks wear READING GLASSES (or bifocals) or just take off their distance glasses, if myopic.
We measure the amount of near HELP needed in DIOPTERS of PLUS power.
What you proabably have there is a set for measuring the needed power for close work. If you look close at the lenses, they are probably marked as follows:
+1.50D +1.75D +2.00D +2.25D +2.50D
A person age 45 would take approx a +1.50 lens over his distance glasses, while a 65 year old would need a +2.50 or +2.75 "ADD"

I was a COMT (Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist) for 30 years. Essentially, a Physician's Assistant in Ophthalmology.
While I was assisting during laser surgery for diabetic retinopathy, the patient fought against my steadying hand for 30 minutes. Just before we finished, everything blew in my shoulder!
After 4 (that's right, FOUR) shoulder operations, I'm left with pain-insomnia & a BAD attitude!
At least Ralphie still loves me
