www.mycityauctions.com is located in 41 cities in the US. It is for local sellers and buyers only. That way nothing has to be shipped. The winning bidder just brings over the money and picks up the item they won. This is a great alternative to the local classifieds and the site is 100% FREE. Also with a site like this you can sell items that you wouldn't even try to sell on other auction sites like animals, appliances, furniture, hot tubs, pool tables, carpet cleaning services and I could go on and on but i think you get the picture. The site is new and many cities have nothing listed yet but check Portland to see how it looks with listed items. Good luck no matter where you are selling.

FRAUD FREE is a bit of a misnomer. It may be 'shipping fraud free' but there is still plenty of room for other kinds of fraud. For instance, stolen goods could be listed or counterfeit or misdescribed goods. ( 14K gold ring? ). It least you could go back a hassle a refund much easier in your home town.
Many ebayers will not let local buyers pick up their items at their home for a variety of reasons. I can see a rash of things to be worked out in this auction format.
Good luck

FRAUD FREE means this local site is no different than using your local newspaper classifieds. There will be no complaints about not receiving an item or it was not as described. When you buy something out of the local classifieds you look before you purchase in that situation just the same as you would do if it were up for auction locally. The one and only difference in the 2 formats is that an auction may bring you a higher price than you wanted in the first place. The site does not allow stolen items to be listed and a criminal would have to be pretty stupid to sell stolen items locally on an auction site that each item has a contact phone number in the listing.

On the plus side : Yahoo Classifieds now cost a lot of money where they were once free. You got the edge on them there.

EBay has offered their search engine with the option of listing items only in your area for years.
As a seller it would seriously limit your potential market, I imagine 99% (probably higher) of my sales have been shipped out of state.
The site does not allow stolen items
I'd be interested to learn how you verify that the seller is the legitimate owner of each item that is listed. I doubt there's a site in existence that advertise that they allow stolen items to be sold.

Yes Ebay has allowed shopping in your own area but who does? Like you say you have shipped all your items out of town. That is the point. Why do people still sell stuff locally throught the paper? Ebay's focus is the long distance sale. Every item listed on this site is local. There are thousands of people in every major city that won't list stuff on Ebay because of the hassle of shipping, NPB's, fraud etc, etc.

IOW, 'onlinedave' would have registered the same time dave@mycityauctions had his small biz listing expire....
ho hum.
Want to build a site, dave?
I wish you luck.
Try honesty & integrity ~ usually a good place to start if you want to promote something as 'fraud free'

People do use the local ebay auctions. I bought a stove for my mother on ebay regional or whatever it is called. It is a great place to get heavy items at a great price. Most people rarely sell heavy items but when they do they can do so on ebay.
On the plus side : ebay charges a fee and you do not but how long get a feeless site last? There are a few regional selling sites other than ebay and none have taken off in big way yet. Good luck, any pressure on ebay is a good thing.
