Probably true, but I can't say I'm surprised. There are STILL many more cable subscribers than internet users out there.

Also, Internet shopping still has a questionable reputation to many people, where buying from the TV is considered far safer.

My mother buys a couple of items a week from QVC. Once every couple months she'll ask me to order something for her from Amazon.

She's never ordered anything online by herself, even though she does surf the web and do email. She has no trouble picking up the phone and ordering from QVC.

Plus, I believe home shopping is older than Amazon.

I don't think Amazon is doing so great myself; don't know if it's management or what, but after all this time you would think they would be smoking with sales. They should take a page from Ebay; study Ebay and see if there's room for improvement.

One thing I notice about their books vs. Half.com prices because I sell on both sites. Amazon charges more for books. The public isn't stupid, they know how to shop around.

I dont live that far from QVC, and from what I hear they are a class act. The local bus company takes trips to their outlet stores. I may have to check it out. I have purchased from them several times, and their service is excellent.

Success spawns imitation and I see a new shop at home network on the air waves these days.

Everyone touts Meg as a great bussiness leader & tycoon but one of her biggest mistakes is not making an ebay TV show a top priority. That's ebay's main competition, the shop at home by phone guys. Many people are afraid to take the ebay plunge because it's somewhat intimidating with all of it's facets. The TV show could take away alot of that apprehension with QVC-like lovable hosts showing the basics of bidding/buying.

Come on Meg, you're doggin' it.

I don't see EBAY going TV.

Ebay is/was an auction site and QVC, Home shopping are fixed prices. They feature celebrities.

I just don't think Ebay and fixed prices mix. How can you manage a TV auction? Don't think it will happen.

few shoppers have heard of half.com .
one problem with buying books on half is that you dont know if the seller has the book until you hear from him usually a few days later.
amzn stocks books so you can buy from amzn or individual sellers, and FREE SHIPPING sometimes.
thats the difference,if you dont advertise, then you dont get the sales
nobody important!

I get very good sales at Half. I have sold 3 books in the past week.
I sell small computer parts, and "everything else".

if you were a professional bookdealer, you would not call 3 books a good week!
some professional booksellers sell many books on amzn, such as E R HAMILTON,nyc STRANDBOOKS,POWELL BOOKS of oregon etc.

nobody important!

I'm NOT a professional bookseller. Just an average Joe Schmoe looking to do sales online. It will probably take me another year to get up to speed.

Salga,
Fixed prices are what ebay is rapidly turning into. I predict that soon only 10% of all ebay offerings will be in the true auction format.

The TV should will not be an ongoing show like QVC but a daily half hour show like Oprah where the emphasis will be on teaching new users the ins and outs of ebay. The show could be a huge help in bringing in new ebayers ( hopefully more buyers than sellers )

Why fixed prices? Wasn't auctions Ebay's strength? Why would it go to fixed price?

If it's taking them 3 years to get the TV show up and running that means it hasn't jelled yet. It may not be a good idea.

The auctions were a fad that has come and gone. Buying on the web is what people want. There will always be a few auction formated auctions for the true collectibles but the other goods do not need the bid and wait format.

The ebay TV show must be in limbo because they can't decide how to produce it or they can not line up enough stations to go national.
