They only advertise on specialty sites like:
www.pets.com or www.furniture.com or hamsterDunce.com or "Martha Stewart Decorates in Lewisburg PA"

The only ad I ever saw was at the moo. Waste of money if you ask me.
You should advertise where people will actually see the ad.

Ebay:
Costs a lot!
I'm sure everyone agrees!
But they spend millions a year on advertising.
Untill other sites are willing to advertise where the general public can see them they don't stand a chance.
When you really think about it Ebay isn't really that expensive at all.
You couldn't get the exposure they create for you, at the price you pay them.
TV,Radio,Magazines,Papers.
If the other sites spent money to reach the public, they would be a force to recon with.
But as it is they will remain unknown!

Ebay is advertising to get the remaining section of the cyber-spacers that haven't tried ebay yet. I still say a daily TV show would better educate the non-ebayers and ebayers alike. It would be a better use of the advertizing money. If they got the right host and writers and format they could draw in a lot more bidders and sellers. It's a major opprotunity lost that ebay sits on their hands about the TV show.

eBay could make an 30 minute informercial instead of a tv show. There are many people who are afraid to use eBay due to frauds.

I like the infomercial idea. [ pay no attention to Ralphie's owner ]. They could play that sucker a million times on a million stations. Like the IONIC BREEZE infomercial. It would be worth a shot in my opinion.

Those shows made ron popeil a millionaire, and sold millions of foreman grills.
A 30 minute show with 15 minutes on selling, and 15 minutes on buying.

And they could make several different infomercials so there would usually be a few different ones on at any time. One of the hang ups of the TV show was aligning a TV syndication to air the shows. The infomercials would solve that problem. Ebay could throw some bucks at the project. If those knife-selling chubbos with chef's hats on can pay for the exposure then ebay can do much better.

The informertial would be much cheaper to run. During the weekends and late at night the networks air them to fill up excess air time. Look at the SMC informertial they have been showing.....bidville is full of the junk lol.

It would be worth a try. How do people learn about buying and selling on ebay now? Mostly from friends and a few from print articles. There are so many " little things " that make up ebay that many new users quit after a few visits. That's all lost sales and revenue for ebay. Meg isn't as sharp as they say she is if she lets billions of dollars slip through corporate fingers because the average Joe Smoo doesn't get the hang on a complicated ebay setup.
( I bet Ralphie understands what we're talkin' about )
