I am relatively new to the online auction scene and would love to do it full-time, but don't know where to get stuff to sell without spending a ton of capital for a "pallet".

The first thing you need to do is to start shopping the online auctions for items that you know about. Or better termed (window shopping). You need to know what is selling and for what. Then go out and find it for much less at sales, wholesalers ect.
You will do fine.

A) Figure out WHAT you want to sell.
B) Find a distibutor for it.
C) Compare your costs to what it is currently selling for on eBay.
D) Go with it if it's profitable or give it up if there's no money there.

At many library booksales you can buy books for $2 or $3 a bag. At many garage sales and flea markets you can get stuff that's super inexpensive. The trick is getting the right stuff. The best way to do that is to study the livin' crap out of the ebay closed auctions and see what sells and what doesn't.
As a Plan B you can go the Yellow Brick Road route that Tomwiii suggested ( substitute the Yorkshire dog with a Boston Terrier for better companionship and less hyperactivity )

Well you can start out like many green sellers with selling all of the no longer needed stuff around your house.
By then you'll be familiar with the auction platforms. Set aside all money made from your sales to go towards inventory.
If you decide you Ddn't want to do it full time afterall then you can use the money for Christmas gifts or something.
