Much of the talk has focussed on Bidville sellers sending an "forwarding address" to their buyers.

But how many buyers have sent e-mail messages to those they've bought stuff from asking them to listing items on Bidville or any other alternative site.

I have. Both Bidville and ePier, my two favorites right now.

They did. I have made several purchases from them as a result.

If you're looking for items in a specific category and find nothing of interest, send off e-mails to those buyers you've dealt with before and simply ask them to consider listing some items.

Are we talking SPAM from a seller?
If I am emailed and you want to sell me something, fine... you try directing me to some auction site and it's turned in as SPAM.

Better think before you mail

No we're talking about a buyer who sends an e-mail asking a seller if they've got items listed on an alternative auction site, and, if not, would they consider it.

dimview ... I would definitely treat that as SPAM ... not the asking if they have stuff listed on another site, but asking them if they would be interested in listing on another site. I would treat that the same way I treat all of the other SPAM I get ...

PS - I "think" I am beginning to understand why you spend so much time posting the declining Yahoooo numbers

RB >

I do not consider it spam to ask a seller if they'd consider listing items on an alternative site, especially if a specific alternative site isn't mentioned. I've mentioned my two favorites to a couple sellers, they checked it out, listed items. And they've made a few more sales.

Because of prior transactions I think a pointer to a seller would be welcome.

And I can't resist.

Why do you I "think" I am beginning to understand why you spend so much time posting the declining Yahoooo numbers ?

At the most its probably five minutes to gather the numbers. I hardly call it "so much time".

dimview ... methinks you are, and have been, a BidVille pom-pom waver all along

Asking a seller to list on another site is no different than asking me to spend "just 5 minutes on your site to see how I, too, can make up to 10,000 per week from my very own home business".

RB,

Bzzzzzt. Wrong answer.

As a seller, BidBay (8 listings), Bidville (27), ePier (10), Lycos (27). Two sales, one each on ePier and Lycos.

As a buyer, Bidville (4), none on the others. Upcoming bids on ePier, Bidville, and <gasp> SnapRat.

So just how is gathering and posting numbers that chronicle the ill-conceived listing fees at Yahoo!Auctions related to my buying and selling at these alternative auction sites.

Me "thinks" you're really reaching for some explanation, any explanation.

< grin >

Edited to add:

Some sellers actually value their customers and a pointer would be welcome. I think sellers that would see it as "spam" aren't too concerned about a continuing relationship with their buyers.

dimview: I think you are right about emailing past, repeat customers and buyers with whom you enjoyed doing business with. I would much rather read an email from someone like that about an auction site than all these weight loss (5'6" and 125 lbs), debt consolidation (I would need to get into debt before I get out) or the daily sex sites (I have to delete from mine and than 3 under 18 persons accounts) that appear daily in my email. I have emailed any and all customers who I knew watched my crafts on a regular basis. I also emailed the buyers from whom I had made multiple purchases. I got a very positive response. I have also gotten similar emails from 2 or 3 people who bought from me asking if I would be listing my crafts there. Plus the 5 or 6 who just wanted to let me know about the site.

If these people emailed me with every get rich, save, use, etc email I would consider it spam. A one time email telling me about a new auction site in the aftermath of Yahoo's self-destruction seems very harmless.

Dimview keep up the good work. I am doing what I can to help bring my buyers to Bidville. Alot wrote me and said thank you they had never heard of it. My sales are not where I would like but my hits have picked up. I believe if Bidville keeps working with the sellers they will come to the top. So good luck to all and happy selling.

RB, and twelvepole,

I can understand flagwaving for the site that you are posting at. Human nature is such that people will tend to ballyhoo that which will help support them in their endeavors.
What I cannot understand is someone standing on the deck of a sinking ship trying to get more people to come on board.
Wouldn't a line to help you get off the doomed vessel be better?
To quote another poster on these boards, don't forget to turn out the lights when you leave.
