I don't hear much mention of eHammer. Seems like everyone wants a free ride or appeal to sites with hugh listings but no bids, I have sold on ehammer for 2 years. My sell through rate is 40%.My fees are about half of ebays. I actually regularly buy items on ebay and resell them on ehammer. Of course they only sell antiuqes there.

I must be missing something! It looked to me like the fees were about the same as Ebay and no traffic. I checked out the collectibles and found MAYBE 200 items total. The Halloween catagory had a big fat 0. Why would I sell there and pay both listing and FVF there? No thanks!

I can only speak from my experience. Many fall into the same trap....equating number of items on a site to success rate. I consisantantly do better on ehammer. This is after running over 10000 items. They also offer free a reserve option and a free relist for unsold itmes. It adds up to much loer fees.

I also find ehammer refreshing. I think that they offer a great product with fair fees. Other sites I visit may have no listing fees but are loaded with tons of junk.My typical auctions are viewed often 100s of times. Most of my stuff sells. Waht most sellers don't realize is that a site like ehammer gets different users than ebay

Volume doesn't always mean that you find what you're looking for....I bid on eBay and eHammer, and I always find better quality items on eHammer. eBay reminds me of AT&T before it got broken up, you were at their mercy. Supporting other sites is a way for us all to win!

This site is DOA - 110 items closing with only 4 items with biding activity.

Coments are viable if you have tried eHammer. A quick glance is an unfair judgement on a bunch of tee shirts ending today with no bids. Check toys for instance and see what happens with quality items on ehammer.

I've checked and it seems like one seller has quite a few items listed, with bids I might add. However, none have met reserve.

In fact most of the items I looked at were placed by this seller. It's almost as if it is their own personal auction site.

You are right! It is I believe a group of Antique dealers all listing on the site,.site run by some great people that have a quality Antique Mall.
They often have free listing days..& gee i have done well there for the size,,really!
Also the bidders are SUPER nice people..you will pick up great new customers by listing even a few things there.
You are welcome to post your website url!!Which is great!!
you can list in more than one category,& hit counter included.very fast real time listing.
For antiques & collectibles much better than Ebay.
They host pics through them for a fee or you can host elsewhere then there is no fee.
Check it out..
one thing,,never had a non paying bidder there!LOL
good luck everyone

I have used ehammer and after selling only a few things gave up on the site some time ago.

Most of the hits and bids seem to be on the items sold by the dealers from the antique mall. The customers can view the items for sale in person there. Not being from that area, I can't compete with that, and my sell through rate did not justify continuing to list on the site with fees at least as high as Ebay's (at that time).

The final straw was when I took advantage of a listing promotion and the credits I earned were not deposited to my account. I walked away after that.

On the plus side there are some real antiques that were found for sale there, and I did sell a few things. However, I did better on Yahoo.

JMHO from an ex-user

The problem as I see it is that users don't want to make an investment of trying a site like eHammer for 3,4 or even 5 months before giving up. Typically they try one or two auctions and bolt from the site. the reality is that A) we all need another site and B) free doen't work for long. These sites have to charge to make it work. I have sold hundreds of items on ehammer. Most rcently one I bought on ebay for $900.....$1350 on eHammer!
One user complained here about an improper credit. eHammer phone number is on thier home page...call them. Try this with ebay, I only get canned email responses from them.
eHammer's average selling price according to them is $177 and thier seel through rate is 29%.

yES, I Agree,i try them periodically & of course whenever there is a free listing day.
Super People there.
I think i know what that credit problem was,i had it too after jan 1st 2001 i noticed my credit balance was gone? i emailed Phil & Brian & it was immediately restored..something in the software..if they don't know they cannot be blamed..(i had kept a hard copy & org email from them with the credit balance) but they didn't even ask me to send it..they were Super about it..
Please let them know..how can they make it right otherwise?
Really incredible to have just a few things listed there & make a bunch of sales..
I really enjoy the respect they show their sellers..refreshing change LOL
good luck!

People posting on this board must be interested in other online auctions yet they admit to only be interested if it is free. There is a desperate need for an ebay alternative, especially in antiques. I use ehammer and pay to do so. I believe that it insures a real alternative. I also have a much higher sell through rate on ehammer. Check out thier auctions ending today for yourselves. It is way overdue to support, I mean really support ehammer for antiques

I had high hopes for ehammer, since ebay is no longer "browsable". I buy many different things, so searching is not really effective. After all, when you go to a live auction or antique show, you don't take a shopping list - you always come home with something you didn't even know you needed.

At its outset, the strikes against them were:
- Horrendous interface
- Slow connection (and I was hardwired to an ISP one floor below)
- And my personal litmus test: searched for Beanie Babies and sure enough they had them.

They appear to have overcome these issues (although with their interface, I am never sure whether I have seen all the listings or not).

I wonder whether the problem is theirs, or if it simply that for most people, on-line auctions are not the way they choose to buy traditional antiques. So many aspects of an antique are judgement calls that can only be resolved by viewing it in person. Also, people don't go out antiquing on a weekend becuase they are running low on antiques. They are looking for a reason to get out and do something.

I know some of the dealers who sell on ehammer, and know that the quality is good, but they set their reserves at high retail, so there is no incentive to do the on-line auction (and does ehammer still have 30 day auctions? That was really weird). I would rather go to the shop and buy. Maybe I am spoiled living here in New England.

FWIW, sothebys.com doesn't seem to be going all that great either - I think for some of the same reasons as above. I was able to buy some nice things when they started, but now their "associates" seem to think that people all over the world are looking for a way to pay NYC retail prices from the comfort of their computers.

I guess I am not sure what you mean about the interface thing. The ehammer site is nimble and easy and I am no wizzard. As far as high reserve go I agree, but ehammer ar any other site cannot control these. My understanding is that the 30 day auctions are an option, again like the reserve. I know I spend countless hours on the road with zilch to show for it. I find eHammer both a viable source to buy and sell items.

Their original interface was difficult to navigate. They also had an "auction hall" concept - sort of like "seller's other auctions".

I realize that reserves etc. are not controlled by the site, when most of the sellers use high reserves, you feel as though it isn't worth the effort to check it every day, and then it just fades away in your memory. I only look at it every few weeks, myself.

And if you can do well buying and selling on it, that's all that matters.
