A recent news article on PayPal and a new ally. It impressed me.

"Money management software maker Intuit has signed a five-year agreement to take on the payment technology of X.com, the operator of the PayPal personal payment service."

"Under the terms of the agreement, customers using Intuit's small business and personal finance products will be able to use PayPal as their default payment method. In addition, Intuit's software products will be available on X.com's Web site, the company said in a statement."

Not surprising, considering former Intuit CEO Bill Harris was CEO & President of X.com for several months beginning last fall.

Not surprising, either, when one considers they both use questionable tactics to extract ever more money from their customers!

Not surprising, too, after they lost most customers on ebay, they try to gain money on other fields.

"after they lost most customers on ebay"

??? Your source please. Or that just an opinion? I believe I read that PayPal's subscriber list was at or approaching 4 million now.

The way I see it is PayPal has over 2 million matches on eBay (having to estimate because PayPal gets too many matches in the 'Collectible' catagory alone!)

PayPal 2,165,000 +
PayPlace 11,854
PayMe 2.650
ExchangePath 1,820
PayDirect 1,807

I hardly think that PayPal lost most customers on ebay. They might lose some, they might even lose a bunch more when the international access opens later this month, maybe... maybe not.

Your number is counted before PayPal public their new policy. And your method is not reliable. Maybe some sellers just said "No PayPal" or "I need 2% surcharge if pay by PayPal". A better way it to count how many auction have paypal's logo.

Please recount your number in the end of Sepetmeber and in the end of Octomber. You will definately feel the difference.

By the way, I saw a lot of your posts to try to say "you like PayPal". Hope you aren't work for PayPal.

The numbers I offered were searched a few minutes before I made that post... if you want to see what numbers someone else came up with a couple weeks ago, you can look here.

http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&thread=258956

A "dead nut" count is impossible, logos alone won't register in searches and I sincerely doubt that 2.2 million have put "NO PAYPAL" in thier auction. You stated "they lost most customers on ebay" to me that sounds very dramatic... so dramatic you should be able to offer proof.

Just for your benefit I did a couple more searches.

12377 = "no PayPal"
15311 = "do not accept PayPal"
(over 2,000 of those are overseas sellers)

and the 'most customer' catagory

872= "no longer accept PayPal"

Yup, that drops the numbers some, but I don't think you'll find the numbers drops very much, still over 2.1 million, and higher than it was a couple weeks ago. Remember logos/pictures alone won't register, the number could be significantly higher.

I don't work for PayPal, I just like a good argument. Would you care to bid on a five minute argument?

That still don't work, the seller may use other word to reject paypal payment.

As I said before, lots of seller will conditionly accept PayPal (will charge additonal fee if pay by credit card thorugh paypal). So in your method, they will count as accept paypal.

And more, lots of seller don't received that famous email yet. They may don't accept Payl in the future.

So let's see what will happen in the end of Octomber. I'm quite sure PayPal will lost most customers on ebay. Maybe 50%. And almost everyone in this meesage board believe that, except you and PPD.

If you look at this message board, only you and PayPalDamon spend a lot of time to post a lot to defense for PayPal. While others come to here to complain for something. Is that just a coincide?

Dear UARU:

Your search for terms like " No PayPal " is not an accurate reflection of the number of sellers that have stopped accepting PayPal. That is just how many bad business people stopped accepting it. A smart business person would not mention it at all. They simply remove it as a payment option in their TOS. Would you post that you do not accept "Western Union" or "MoneyGram" or any other payment forms ? No. If you sold shirts and ran out of blue shirts, would you put a big sign in your front window saying "We don't have any blue shirts" ? No.

Your figures only reflect how many of the sellers that stopped accepting PayPal are either angry enough or foolish enough to publicize the fact that they dumped PayPal.

As for your love of PayPal and your comments about how reasonable their rates are, take a look at the real rates. Add the .25 transaction fee and additional .6% for auto deposit and you will see that a $ 16.00 payment incurs a 4.1% fee and a $20.00 payment incurs a 3.75% fee. This is no bargain. In fact it is 25% higher than our "real" Merchant Account with Novus and our "real" Merchant Account with American Express.

1.9 % looks great, but the truth is not 1.9%. It is 1.9% plus, plus, plus. More deception from PayPal. ( The Choice of Foolish Business People )

As for the original article you referenced. Be prepared for higher fees again to use that service. You can bet that Quicken will get a cut of the fees and thus PayPal will raise them again. Enjoy !!!

Dear mrjim,

The numbers I posted were in dispute to the statement that PayPal "lost most customers on ebay" and if you believe that statement is true then fine, I'll make no futher attempt to dispute it.

If your internet American Express merchant account is cheaper than PayPal then I marvel at the agreement you secured.

Higher fee means lost customer, no doubt.

The numbers you quoted look more like Ebay's Billpoint than PayPal. We recently canceled our Merchant Account in favor of PayPal due to the high cost of processing credit cards. (Currently, our international buyers are using BidPay until PayPal opens up.) Mind if I ask how you managed to secure such a deal with your merchant account? "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't." That old adage keeps ringing in my head after reading your post about your MA rates! Sorry to sound sceptical, but ...
