Wow, I though I could get around upgrading to a "business" account at PayPal, but now a limit of $500 /half year. By upgrading to a premier or business account, I have to pay per payment I receive. What happened to "free service"????? Anyone know of any companies that won't screw me?? I have talked to many and PayPal will lose big with his decision!!!!

Before you get too excited there are some things to consider. I've made a lot of purchases via PayPal, NONE of them would have been counted against a seller's $500 6 month credit card acceptance limit, NONE of them. Many buyers are also sellers, and they use PayPal funds in their accounts, many buyers are using their bank account to fund there PayPal also, none of these purchases would count against the $500 6 month credit card limit.
"a $500 limit on receiving credit card payments every six months. Payments funded from the sender's bank account or existing PayPal account balance will not count against the recipient's limit."
There are some other pay services that are free at present, if PayPal plan won't work for you then you should try them. Don't expect the other pay services to allow you a 'free merchant' account forever either though. I'd also look at things from the buyers point of view too, PayPal's fraud protection does carry some weight.

On another board, Damon was asked what percentage of transactions are credit card based. His answer was about 80%. It will be interesting to see what the counters show once they're activated.

Wonder if you could just say in your auctions that you only accept PayPal money from bank account transfers and PayPal accounts - NO CREDIT CARD transactions.

Quick an dirty answer to the initial post: ExchangePath and PayDirect. Both are great. ExchangePath lets you accept VISA, MC, Discover, American Express, and Diner's club. All COMPLETEY FREE and no lies to the consumer. And yes, your customers WILL use them. Mine do, even though I still list PayPal as an option.

I have had more than 25 buyers pay via Paydirect. Because it is part of a much larger whole, I feel that it is the most solid option. I also trust Yahoo not to gouge - they are here for the long term and have a history of non abuse of their users.
I am also signed up with Exchangepath but have not received a payment. I am less enthusiastic about them though, and someone reported on the Ebay Outlook that they had been advised they would not see their money for 10 days due to a problem. Having *problems* at this stage of the game is worrisome to me, as far as I am concerned the jury is still out.

I am in total agreement. I said the same thing myself. From what I have seen from Yahoo (0.10 per day featured auctions, etc) I think that when they do start charging for Paydirect services that it will probably be the cheapest around. Yahoo has nothing to gain by screwing the customer base.
