Something very similar happened to me. Approx. 2 months ago, I wrote a check on my account at x.com. The money balance at that time was right at $100, the check for $105, but I had over $150 in overdraft protection. Check should have cleared with no problem, right? Wrong!
Check was presented and paid, and I was charged $25 overdraft fee. I called x.com at least 10 times, and only one person actually looked at the account and said, "Oh, yes, I see what happened but I have no idea why" She, unfortunately, told me she did not have the authority to charge back the $25 OD fee. I would have to call back!!
Many, many emails from me to x.com followed. Only one response was ever received, and that was from someone who told me that "I'm looking at your account history, but I do not see the item in question" (I wonder where they get these people?? I look at the same history, and it is there in black and white!)
I finally sent a flurry of very strongly worded emails, at which time the $25 was added back in to my account. To this day I have never received an explanation of anything that x.com did. I got that one asinine email, and that was it!
I am going to close both my x.com and paypal account (as soon as the transfer that fell into that big, black paypal hole comes through). Both accounts are more trouble than they are worth.

Hi viaastra,
I had no idea I never responded to you. I sincerely apologize. Would you be willing to re-send your email to me? I'll forward the information to our customer service department and will personally follow up to make sure the issue is resolved.

well it's not really my place to answer this for both of you, but I would think if you did not write checks out for more than your x.com/ available balance there would have been no problem.
Maybe the available credit is for credit charge purposes, but not overdraft protection, I don't know, but if you use an overdraft credit line you do incurr charges with most banks if not all, so did both of you really intend on doing this (writing checks out for more than you had available) and not incurring a charge? just wondering...

Well, they do call it overdraft protection. Yes I knew the balance before I wrote the check. Turns out, it's the first check I have ever written on the account as well.
Possibly it is only meant to be used with the Visa debit card, I know it worked with that in the past. I don't recall it being presented that way, but possibly this is the answer.
Who knows ?

I've looked through the paperwork that came with my account. I do not see where I can't access the credit line/ overdraft with a check.
Two: I still have received no answer from the finace department regarding why I could not fund my account using a Visa card-no I have not reached the 6 month limit. This is the item you told me to email you about around 2 1/2 weeks ago.
Appreciate any light you can shed on either of these matters.
Thank you.

You mentioned that I didn't respond to the email you sent me, and I've looked through my email folders but cannot find that email. I sincerely apologize for the delay. Would you be willing to send me the information again (pertinent dates, etc.) along with your email address so that I can have a customer service manager look into your account? I will follow up to make sure everything is resolved as soon as possible. My email address is [email protected].

Thanks PayPalJ,
I appreciate your willingness to assist, but I'm just going to move on from these incidents.
I received a letter from xcom detailing the bounced check charge and it makes no more sense, the figures and dates agree with mine-so apparently it's abitrary or there is a glitch or I just don't understand how the overdraft protection works.
Whatever the case, it makes it undependable for me, so I just won't use it and I won't have any problems.
Thanks again.
Rick
