I have been trying to import inventory from a text file and am having problems. I have typed the text with a title tab description tab title tab... When I try to import it shows 30 fielsd and will not allow me to enter the titles into the title field or descriptions into the description field. How should the text file be set up so that it will import properly? I use word and am an advanced user. Help!!
To import a file to Pro, you must first make sure that the file contains columns with all the SMPro Inventory fields you wish to populate. The fields are Title, Description, Image Location (type in the URL of the Image into the spreadsheet), Item Cost data, Starting Bid information, and SKU or ISBN numbers. It might be easier to build this using Excel however text files are accepted.
When you have your file prepared and saved, open up SMPro and go to Tools and select Inventory Importer. Choose the file type you wish to import -- since you indicated you seperated them by tabs and you are using a text file, you would select Text file with tab seperated fields. After you do this you'll be taken to the Field Manager section, where you would simply match up your fields and complete the import process.
Let me know if you still have trouble getting it imported.

Thank you for your prompt response! I am trying to reduce steps and save time. I dictate into a word file the item title and description. My goal was to import the text file into an access database so that I can track inventory, sales and run reports showing me cost of inventory & amount the item sold for and then into SMPro. However, this is very time consuming. There has to be a way to elimate some of these steps.
Would I be better served using SM Business? Is the import feature more accommadating?
You can create these fields in an access database file and import the access file into Pro. That will eliminate some of the steps you are taking prior to importing your inventory. Unfortunately there isn't really a way to eliminate steps in the import process, as they are all necessary to match up your fields so that the file imports correctly.
