Hello Daniel,

Try simply restarting your machine first. Then clear your browser cache and temp files, check the microsoft site for any web updates.

If it still hangs when trying to open inventory, let us know.

My Sales Manager Pro won't open. I get not responding , I have done the above & even uninstalled and re-installed and it still won't open . This is urgent, it's Friday and that's my biggest night to list auctions.

Hi Lotowsbasement,

How much RAM do you have on your computer? What is your OS? Have you tried opening Pro with nothing else running in the background? If you get a 'not responding' message it is most likely memory related.

Sonya

Sonya, I have 512mb ram Wind98 2nd Ed it was working fine until 2hrs ago but it always seemed to take forever (2 min) to open. No other program in my system takes as long to open. Dop you have spyware in this program? Because my adaware program deleted some cookies this morning.

Hello,

We don't have any spyware associated with the program -- if your Adaware deleted cookies, it was probably from some other site. What ISP do you use? Has the problem gotten better or worse since you first posted to us?

Sonya

Hello,

When did this first start, today? Also, have you been able to use the program for a period of time before this started, or is this your first attempt?

Reloading the software will correct any issues with the software itself, so if you tried that already, its time to take a look at the system.

As Sonya mentioned, be certain to disable any other programs running in the background first.

Sonya,

The same thing is happening to me. It just started today. I open up Sales Manager Pro, then try to open a file and the program is shut down.

Could it be possible that this is a problem on AW's end?

Hi Doormat,

We haven't had any other reports of this trouble recently. Did you change anything about your system recently?

Sonya

There is something to be said about SMPro being a memory hog.
At work I have hanve an Intel 600 with 256 meg of memory running WinMe and cannot have Front Page open and SMPro open simultaniously. Mind you, If I do a restart and then kill most of what is in the task bar, I run both programs for some time until I start seeing that little message in SMPro to close other programs due to memory issues.

I don't know if this will help nycrugs but I too have had some issues when SMPro competes against other active applications for memory.

No, I haven't changed anything recently. What the other person said about memory makes sense, although I have a lot of extra space on my computer. About half the time, I cannot enlarge the preview picture without waiting a very long time and I would say about one third of the time, the program crashes while I am building an auction. What I have to do now is keep saving the whole batch, after I complete each auction so I don't lose everything I just did. I always clear my cache and make sure other programs are not open when I use Sales Manager Pro, but it seems to work best when I'm not connected to the internet as well. The thing is, if I use the program and then close it, I cannot connect to the internet again without re-booting and it would be much more convenient to be on line while I am building my auctions. I have DSL by the way. Don't know if that makes any difference. All and all, it just seems like a program with a lot of bugs that each user has to try and work out, but wishing the technical folks at Auction Watch could look into these things at the same time.

Thanks anyway Sonya.

Well guys, I have to jump in and tell you that the issue is with your systems - not AW.

I can confidently say this as a computer tech for 17 years. The last four of those years I gave live computer help in support of 5 major companies across all platforms of Windows and browsers.

I don't have ANY problems with my system running SMPro, FrontPage, Word, Fireworks, and 12 other programs actively running in the background. I "was" using Win98SE with SMPro up until about a year ago when I switched to XP Home. Neither OS had a problem. I have a 450MHz machine with 316MB RAM. Task Manager reports SMPro is only actively using 6,572K memory as compared to FrontPage using 5,104K memory and EACH Internet Explorer Window that I have open currently using from 4,976K to 20,188K memory (I currently have 6 IE windows open). Oh, forgot to mention, I have SMPro running and 3 of the IE windows have AW screens in them - this forum, my inventory page, and my Control Panel.

When I view the Performance in my Windows Task Manager it 123,492K Available Physical Memory out of a Total of 323,056K with a System Cache of 188,312K.

All this can run and with XP I can leave it running and switch users to one of my kids accounts where they can run memory hoggin games such as Sims Living Large and Diablo II Lord Of Destruction!

All of this and a dial-up connection that routinely only gives me 38 - 44Kbps.

My point with this info overload is to point out the one thing I do to keep my system clean and healthy. I have a shortcut to Disk Cleanup that I hit routinely to clear system cache and temp files that will rob your system of performance.

I mean If I have viewed 4 or 5 web pages or created a few auctions or whatever, I hit it. It only takes a second and Windows does the clean up. I also have Windows Maintenance Manager run once a week in the middle of the night when no one is using the system.

About once a month I delete every friggin' cookie on my computer... yes, I keep my passwords and log in information handy... if you kill the cookies and are used to letting the cookies handle a lot of your password info for general sights you will need it to get in again. I don't ever store my passwords in cookies anyway... not a good idea.

Probably the most important thing I've learned over the years is that I absolutely DO NOT turn my system off at night and on in the morning... I leave it on. That's like sitting there flipping a light switch on and off... eventually the bulb WILL burn out... it's electrical. If you have good ventilation around the system (or additional cooling fans installed in a front drive bay like I do) you will have less problems. My last computer ran for 7 years with no problems... actually TIME and Maximum upgradeability is the only reason it got shelved - it stayed on all the time too. This one's been running constant for 4 years now. I do periodically cold boot it (complete shut down) about every other month just to give Windows a fighting chance.

I don't have all of the answers as each computer setup is entirely different, but I DO recommend checking the basics on your system - especially when lesser systems are running optimum with the software that you feel is causing your problems.

Last note - as I understand it, the more image files you have in SMPro that have to load (and the larger those files are) the longer the program will take to load them in memory - and the more memory will be used. Simple solution - delete the images you don't need or get more RAM or a newer system to support your graphic requirements.

Hope this info helps. But understand these are entirely my suggestions and they may or may not be the same solution for you. No one knows your system better than you do.

Best Regards,

Greg Williams

BTW, I wanted to clarify that my post may or may not be supported by the AW Team; but I've been there in that seat and I know you can't come straight out and tell a customer the problem IS their system... but my experience tells me that 99% of the time that is EXACTLY where the customer's ISSUE (ie, problem) is... professional courtesy just doesn't allow a professional customer support rep to "dis" a customer's system.

ALSO: I too use Ad-Aware and I have scrutinized the spyware that it found and I can vouch that AW does NOT use spyware. If it did, I wouldn't be using AuctionWatch!

If the problem is with my system, why did it work fine for 2 years and just now start acting up?

Good advice Greg.
Another thing that might help is to look at the programs that are included at start-up. You might be running some real HOGs that you don't need to be. Just in case you need instrucitons:
Click on Start, click on Run and type in MSCONFIG. Press Ok and then hit the Startup tab.
My kids put so much junk on our computer as they play games and burn CD's that I have to go in and disable stuff all the time (ie., gator w/spyware; imesh; bonzi). To see a list of programs that should be running in background go to the web site:
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.htm

This might help.
However, I still sometimes will get a crash in my SMPro when I have Explorer open to this site and try to access the Ebay select a category. So, who knows. GOOD LUCK!

No one has asked me to do this, but I sincerely want to apologize if any of my postings regarding your individual computer systems have offended you.

I just wanted to point out the most likely reason for the problems that can be encountered.

Just wanted to help you out.

I have elected not to pursue this thread any further.

Hello,

To further look into your problems, please let us know if any error message is shown when SMPro crashes.

If possible, please write here the exact error message, and the exact moment the error happened (when SMPro was started, when a batch was opened etc.).

Thanks,

-Radu
