So, what do I find in my email tonight? Why its a lovely email saying that my complimentary debit card is in the mail.

IF I WANTED A DEBIT CARD, I WOULD HAVE SIGNED UP FOR IT BY NOW.

I really only want a service that allows me to accept payments and then to move them to my bank account. Is this so hard to understand? Or is this just a way to try to justify your charges? Either way, STOP TRYING TO FORCE ME TO USE SERVICES I DO NOT WANT.

I will not be using a debit card, you are not a real bank and not a company to be trusted. I will be marking the envelope return to sender. And may I suggest in the future that you allow ME to CHOOSE the options I want.

I received the same message. If you read closely it also mentions priemer and business account holders. I have a personal account so why am I receiving this card. IMHO this is just another ploy to get people to upgrade. When I logged on to PayPal to verify a payment there was a screen.....much like the one in September that I was suppose to click thru. I quietly left the sight and logged back in to avoid any unwanted upgrades. Time for a glass of wine!!

Hi,

Thank you for your comments and concerns.

Debit cards were mailed to users that have had good volume. These cards are not, and do not, have to be activated by the user.

It is a way to have quicker access to the money received into your Paypal account (instead of waiting for the item to clear to a bank or arrive in the form of a check, you can have access to your funds immediately--and there are ways to earn cash back on it).

Users of debit cards do have to be Verified members with a Premier or Business account. These accounts do carry fees, but they can be offset with the PayPal Preferred program (you could, effectively, reduce the rates from 2.2 on receiving money to .7), while giving you access to your money faster.

I did want to address any possible concerns before you decide not to use the product. I am also free for any additional concerns, or questions, should you decide to post them.I also apologize if you receive the item, and do not want it, but you are under no obligation to activate the card.

Thank you for your comments.

I have read those so called benefits so many times I can quote them from memory.

The fact still remains that I have been with paypal since Jan 2000, I have seen all the changes and I know what the different services are and what they offer. I have been ignoring the little debit card icon for months now. I have a perfectly good bank account with a perfectly good debit card and I am perfectly happy with the amount of time paypal takes to get the money into my bank account.

What I don't like, and at this point, what apologies will not fix, is that paypal has decided that I must not know what I am doing. You all do NOT seem to believe that there are actual verified premier account users that do not want the bells and whistles.
Do you really think that I am so stupid that I cannot read and make a decision regarding whether or not I want a card? Do you really think that you need to make that decision for me when I don't make the one you think I should? Did it ever occur to you that I am perfectly happy with my bank and don't need another quasi-bank?

You all really need to stop assuming that you know best about what all your customers want and just let us run our accounts as we see fit. Perhaps you would be better served to create the bells & whistles and announce them for those who might be interested and let us do our thing. Then you could take all the time you are spending putting out fires on this board and train your customer abuse center how to actually be a customer service center. (Yes, I have had a run in with them and no, my issue was never resolved, and yes, they were extremely rude and stupid.)

Damon, I don't want to hear from you in response to this post. I've read it all over & over again and every time you post I just get frustrated and angry all over again. Just leave me alone, let me use your service in the way that works for me, and let ME make the decision about what bells & whistles I want to use.

Hi crankyoldhag,

I am sorry, but I do need to respond to your post, but I am also offering assistance (see below).

I am not trying to be offensive on your issues, but I have been doing customer service for years and I wanted to make sure that your concerns were addressed (so that you could make an informed decision on the product and that the correct decision could be made by you on any product that you choose to have or not to have).

I also wanted to advise why the cards were sent out and that you were under no obligation to activate it, as well as why certain information may have been required.

I apologize if it seems like I ignored your concerns, or commented on them, but I was actually trying to be helfpul on the issues. If I have offended you in any manner, I do apologize.

As it relates to your outstanding issue(s) with customer service, you are more than welcome to contact me directly about it and I will try to see that closure is given to the issue. My email address is [email protected].

I wonder if Paypal is allowed to send out debit cards without customers asking for them?

I'm pretty sure banks are not allowed to do this. Credit card companies have similar regulations, but that's more along the lines of sending cards to potential customers.

I wonder....??

I wonder if Paypal is allowed to send out debit cards without customers asking for them?

PayPal is sending out a plastic card that is useless unless the customer logs on to their account and deliberately activates it. If you activate it you'll have a debit card, if not, it's just junk mail.

I'm pretty sure banks are not allowed to do this.

The last two checking accounts I opened included a debit card being sent to me without requesting them. They were totally useless until I phoned the bank and activated them from my home phone.

If you don't want a debit card, throw it in the trash. If you do want a debit card you activate it. This is really a non-issue.

Actually, if they had not left a little button for me to push and order a debit card for several months prior, it would have been a non issue. However, they did leave a little button and I did not push it indicating that I did not want their debit card.
Then they decide that since I didn't push the button, maybe I don't know what I'm doing and just send me one. That's what made me angry.

Damon,
As to the customer serivce issue, that was a year ago now and I don't know that there is anything you can do to fix it. I will send a mail with the details, perhaps you can let me know if there is a way to prevent it from happening again.
