My store categories used to appear in alphabetical order until I chose a store plan and signed up. Now they are appearing in a random order and it's a mess. What happened? How do I get them to appear in alphabetical order again? Thanks.

Hi Planejane,

The categories show in the order that you create them. I can log a suggestion with product development to change the order.

Sonya

Hi Sonya, when I go into my "Edit categories" area, they are listed in the order that I created them (alphabetically) and the way they used to show up on my storefront, but now in my storefront they are showing up in a random order? If I go and recreate them in order, will they then show up in that same order in my storefront? Thanks.

Hello,

They show up in the order that you make them right now, and appear alphabetized in your edit category section. Unfortunately at this time there isn't a way to change the appearance order.

Sonya

Thanks Sonya, I'm just still a little confused as to why it was fine until yesterday. Was there a program change or something?

Hello planejane,

Have you tried refreshing the page?

Hi Tara. Yes, refresh doesn't make a difference to the order of categories in the storeront.

Hi planejane,
At the current time the categories are showing up in your store in the order that you have entered them.

A suggestion has already been made to our development team and we will add yours to it. Thank you.

Tara

Tara, we need an ETA on the alphabetical order thing. Have you received a response from the techs yet? Do they plan to implement this?

My store is now closed. I hesitate to move forward with my holiday plans as a) we are not getting a response to this very important issue and b) the store which was not profitable to begin with now becomes a $60 annual expense.

I would like to have a functional storefront for various reasons but am stumped why we are not getting any kind of an answer other than the some one over and over, "Your suggestion will be forwarded..." Please get us an ETA. Alphabetical ordering of categories should at least be an option.

Thank you.

Good luck..I have been asking for this since July. It's a mess when it is not in alpha order.

Hello all, here's a not-so-quick fix for the alphabetical order in storefronts.
- remember that the order of categories is shown in the same order that they are created.
- in inventory, using the move tool dump all your items into newly created temporary categories.
- then deleted all your old categories (you can only delete a category which has a 0 inventory - hence the need to move everything into temporary categories)
- create your new categories in the order in which you want them to appear. (alphabetical or otherwise)
- go back to inventory and using the move tool put everything back into your newly created categories.
- when your temporary categories have 0 inventory delete those categories.
- viola - you're in business.
This works great if you have a few items and categories. I have about 100 items in inventory and about a dozen categories and it took me just under 2 hours to do.
Hope this helps some of you out there.
PS: don't forget to close your storefront while you do this.

Hello planejane,

Note that we will be updating the categories to be displayed alphabetically shortly (not sure on an ETA, but very soon!)

Thanks for posting!

Diana

Hello everyone,

Store Category orders have now been changed -- they now appear in alphabetical order in your store.
