Greetings. I'm setting up my store for the first time and tried to enter some categories and descriptions. I got them entered into the wizard okay, but they didn't show on my site. I thought maybe I had got too wordy and overflowed something, so I started shortening the descriptions. No luck, so I shortened the category names. Still no luck. Thought I'd just delete every thing and start over. Couldn't delete them individually or by checking all of them at once. Was able to erase all of the descriptions, but still, when I select a category and click the delete button...nothing. Any thoughts? The pony hates feeling dumb.

Okay, well I never did figure out how to delete categories, but it's moot at this point. I figured out what I was doing wrong with trying to load my categories...I wasn't sychronizing, and also didn't realize that empty custom categories didn't show up on the site.
Still would be interested in deleting categories though, in case the need arises sometime.
If you go to Store Manager and click on Edit Categories, a pop up with your list of store categories will appear. There, you can select categories and delete them. I hope this helps.

Yes, I realize that's how it's supossed to work, but it didn't. And it still doesn't. The delete button "goes down" and doesn't come back up.
And in the process of shutting down and synchronising Sales Manager Pro and the web based part of the programs, somehow I managed to upload the same item twice, and it disappeared from my SM Pro inventory table altogether. What caused this?
I went into Sales Manager (on-line) and in the inventory zeroed it out, but both items still show in my online inventory. Any ideas?
I am confused on what you mean by, the delete button goes down. Let me know a category you wish to delete and I'll try it from my end, to see if I can replicate this problem.
A duplicate upload can happen if you synchronize the batch twice. Though it shouldn't delete from your inventory. If this was an auction and it's active you will need to end one of them on eBay. It it is a store item you can decrease the Quantity at Store entry for one of them to zero, and that will remove it from the store.

I mean the the "X" on the delete button turns red, and the button "depresses" when I click it, but that's the end of it. Nothing else happens and the category doesn't delete. Please try to delete my category "that other stuff" and see what you think.
Also, if you would, could you try to see why I can't remove any items, either. I have tried to delete my item "Kodak Presstape Film Splicer" via the online inventory manager, but all it does it reduce the quantity to zero on the inventory management page. The item is still on my home page and also in the category "unfiled" and it still shows a quantity of one, I have tried synchronising, but that doesn't change it. Obviously, I'm missing something simple somewhere. Unless I'm not. 8^)
The pony is bushed. He thinks he'll head for the barn. See you tomorrow. Thanks.

I see that you were able to delet the category. Excellent! Please let me know what I was doing wrong, if you know.
Regarding the "tape splicer" I asked you to delete, I found the problem here at this end. "Pilot error". Although I had zeroed the "qty. available", I didn't zero the "qty. in store" until just now. Now the item doesn't show up on my store pages.
Is there any way to get the entire listing removed from the on-line inventory manager?
Once you put the Quantity in Store to zero, you can go back to your main inventory to where the item is located. If you really want to delete the whole thing, just select it and hit the Delete button.

I feel real bad about this. I know I must be doing something dumb. I just tried to do exactly what you said, but still no go. I even went in and detached the image and deleted all text and html, then tried it again. It's still there. I removed it from SM Pro inventory. Closed and restarted the program, synchronised, --it's still there in Sales Manager (on-line) Inventory. It even resurrected the text and re-attached the image.
Also, I still don't know how you deleted the category last night. I almost guess you did it the same way I tried, except that it worked for you.
Actually, I didn't even touch the category so I'm not really sure what happened. You might want to try clearing your browser cache, quitting your browser, restarting it, then trying to delete the item again. If you still can't please confirm that you wish to delete "Kodak 8mm & Super 8mm Presstape Film Splicer" and I'll do it for you.

I cleaned out my browser cache, shut bown the browser, verified that all Temporary Internet folders and subfolders were clean, restarted the browser, tried to delete the Kodak Splicer. No Soap. I'd like for you to try to remove it. I'm on my two week trial and Vendio, as advertised seems to suit my needs. Unfortunately, the disappearing SM Pro inventory, and the failure to delete items and categories as per the instruction is causing me to have doubts about the program's reliability. I hope it's something simple. I especially hope it's something I'M doing wrong, because I'm getting weary searching the web for a web-store site that does what I want it to do.
I deleted the item as you requested. Unfortunately I have not seen this problem before. You might want to try this on other browsers, let us know if you run into the same troubles. This way we can determine if it's related to your browser.

You hit the nail on the head that time, Sonya,
I just downloaded Mozilla 1.5 and everything is now cool. No problems adding or deleting items or categories. Knock on wood.
FYI, I was running IE6.0.2800.1106.XPSP2
on Windows XP Professional. Hopefully this will be of use to you.
Thanks very much for staying with me. Sometimes you can lead the pony to water, but you can't make him computer literate.
