I received an order from a customer, but in the store, I could not tell if it had been paid or not. I saw that it was by going to paypal, and it had been paid. But in the My orders tab in the vendio store, it says N/A under order total. It is also lited in the needing checkout tab in my orders. Why is that? Is there an easy way to tell if a customer has paid for their item?

This order is actually an eBay storefront transaction. It's possible this is one of the items that you imported in from eBay and not one that you had actually submitted anew directly from the Vendio website.
It says 'NA' for the total as the buyer hasn't gone through the checkout process here in Vendio yet. (possible they already did via eBay?)

Here you can note that it has not yet been marked as paid. You can also tell this as the order shows NA for the total and the item still appears in 'awaiting checkout.'
