I recently purchased a domain name through Vendio and wondered if there was an easy way to add e-mail at that domain, or how I might go about getting an e-mail powered by another service (like Gmail), if necessary.
Vendio does not currently offer domain email support directly, however, you can use Google Apps (free for up to 50 users) to integrate email with your store domain. Below are directions on how to register and configure your Google Apps account:
- Click "Get Started"
- Select "Administrator: I own or control this domain" and enter the domain name.
- Click "Get Started".
On the following page, enter all the required fields. You will see a checkbox that says "I understand that if I cannot alter DNS records..." Please check this box as Vendio will alter your DNS records for you. Create your first administrator account on the next page. Review the terms and conditions, then click "I Accept. Continue..."
On the Welcome to Google Apps page, select the "Change (yourdomain) CNAME record". Click "Continue".
On the following page, you will see an alpha-numeric string containing your domain name under step 2. Copy this string and send it to us using the "Contact Support" tab. We will need this information to alter the DNS records for you as outlined above.
Be sure to send your Vendio username along with the string, and please reference Google Apps in the email so we will know what to do with the information you send.
Once we have completed the alteration of your DNS records you will be able to use Google Apps to manage your domain email.
Note that it can take 24 - 48 hours for the DNS changes to propagate. We will notify you by email once the changes are completed, but you may not be able to access or use the email or other apps for 24 - 48 hours after we make the changes.
We will also set up sub-domains for you so the calendar, chat, docs, and sites services in your Google account will be activated. Once activated, you can change the URL for these services to your domain instead of the Google domain.
You will see these apps in your Google account under Dashboard > Service Settings. Click the link to each service to access the URL settings.
