Just noticed a load of items on Amazon with bidding starting at a penny.
These appear to be sold by Amazon. Can that be right? Anyone know when this started? Lots of bids. Anyone else found that starting so low on Yahoo will drag in the serious bidders???
If so, it sure beats paying to have items featured to get them attention.....

I have found starting low attracts bidders- and will attract serious bidders when they see 10 bids +++ on an item.
I tried non reserve auctions and they do not work very well on items $20.+ --- I had an item listed on Yahoo last week with a $19.50 start with no reserve - NO sale. I listed the same item this week with a $5.00 start and a $19.50 reserve- the first day it was listed, I had a person make 3 bids in order to get to the reserve. This is just one example of HUNDREDS - and with higher end items, it's a necessity to start low and use a reserve price - at least with the items I sell and in any venue I have used [egreed -> golds -> Amazon -> YAHOO!!!]
Penny auctions were [is?] popular with some egreed sellers - at least when I was selling there (pre extortion fee)

maxwax, do those auctions have a reserve or are they non-reserve? I don't have the nerve to start something that low with no reserve price.
