I for one REFUSE to return to ebay. Doing so will only make their monopoly on the auction world stronger and give us ZERO leverage when it comes to fee increases. They have already stepped way out of bounds in rules regarding your ability to sell unsuccesful items elsewhere on the web. Who the heck do they think they are? Last time I checked, free enterprise was part of the democratic system this country was based on. Sorry for my rant but think about it the next time you post an auction on the 4 letter word. If we all go there, what will stop them from charging 50 cents an auction? maybe $1 ?? They will have no competition and nothing to stop them.
look for me on msn and yahoo messenger IUCARDS

This puts the issue right back on the user. Many users complain about eBay for whatever reason, but then do not try other auction sites. I believe that it's because they are so familiar with eBay, they're practically hooked. In doing this, users don't give sites like auctionaddict, bidbay, lowestbids.com, etc. a chance.

Just my two cents.....

i agree.as much as i hate to say i am an ebay seller but i do like to have my options. but incase you haven't notice.. good auction sites really aren't out there... maybe the sellers should all combine their money together and we purchase a domain site.. kind of like another internet mall. <cough> ?? or maybe buy our own sever??

iucards, I can't afford 600.00+ a month for lousy service on ebY. And I refuse to give it to them. SO where does this leave me? I know there will be many angry responses, I really do not care.

I always lose on ebY. I got real sick of begging for my FVF refund. ALmost always I was turned down. I decided if they needed my .33 worse than I did, they could have it.
Right after that, I left and did not look back.
Perhaps this was done without much warning, but every business must show a profit somewhere. Mine did. As for Yahoo, who knows? It is their concern now. Although some savvy sellers from eY have told me they saw this coming. They will try Yahoo anyway.
They are tired of rip-offs, lies and dirty business. SO am I.

I hear there was an outage down all day Tuesday and probably denials right now. That's great. But I won't be part of it again.
RIP.

I like it in principle, but it's just not practical. Even if it were possible to put the resources to together to build the site and support it, it would still require 10's of millions of dollars in promotion to attract even a quarter of the number of bidders that Ebay has.

I dont' plan on financing eY's prime-time commercials either. Hasn't that been a real quesiton lately, or last I heard, P2P auctions are over, rooting sellers out?
It's all double-speak to me anyway.

There is competition and I believe I know where this has come from, nbci.com. They are saying 'we will bury yahoo' on primetime.
At least surpassing Yahoo's #1 status as search-engine anyway. Maybe it played a part, maybe not. I am not the financier of ebY, Inc.

Well I still use eBay but I won't be totally dependent on them.

No, never, under no circumstances, in no way, Not. Was I clear?

More a knee jerk reaction than anything but I went out and got a cell phone yesterday. That combined with a rough draft of a flyer which was sent over to a friend for design work marks the birth of "VanMan".

Anybody want a slightly old man and a van for light moving, errands or courier service?

Actually there seems to be a reasonable market in my area for a limited amount of this service. $25.00 per hour and a flexible work schedule.

Plus it gets me out of the apartment. I even have to shave, shower and put on pressed clothing. Things I don't always do (ever do?)before sitting down in front of the computer.

What this gives me is an alternative to being too caught up in the frustrations of this business (this past week with YAHOO fees and eBay outages was a doosie), makes me go do something else and get perspective on the rest of the world.

Actually it started when I was dropping off some donations at a local thrift shop thru their back door. Started talking to their neighbor, a caterer, who was taking a smoke break. He asked if I would be interested in helping out on occasions when he's in overload.

Interestingly, the few occasions I've helped have been both enjoyable and put me into contact with some local businesses (Xmas parties) that I didn't even know existed (buried in industrial parks). I'm exploring doing some work with them listing excess inventory and business equipment/supplies.

Sort of like being paid to preview auctions.

We all have our own needs, preferences, strengths and local circumstances. Whatever works for any of us will be widely different.

What won't work for anyone is their being totally dependent on eBay.

You don't have to accept my word on this.

Just ask one or two thousand sellers this question and notice the overwhelming, consistant answer you get.

VanMan!! What a totally kwell idea!! I could sure use a service like that. I don't get around well. I may be terribly slow but I am determined and I eventually get the job done. It just takes me twice as long as it did when I was young and strong.

You put that number BIG on the side of that Van! I bet that will take off great!
