Hi all, I've been with ebay for about 1 1/2 years now. Back when they started the dollar business, I started listing items with Yahoo.
I'm not full time, I may have a total of 40 auctions at a time, but I've been pleasantly suprised. They do not always sell the first time around, but due to auto listing, they do sell the second or third time around. And, also due to auto-relisting, I'm actually spending less time listing.
Also, I've not had one deadbeat, something I can not brag about at ebay.

I also started out at eBay. Since last June or so, I began to diversify to other auction sites including Yahoo!
There is less traffic here at Yahoo! but it more than makes up for it by not charging any fees. This is quite a savings for me. My items do take more time to sell, but they eventually do.
Deadbeat ratio hasn't been that bad for me either.
I still list my "better" items at eBay, but Yahoo! has been a pleasant surprise for me.

Thanks RTI for responding. I too, will still list some items at ebay, ones that I know Will sell better, but since Yahoo is free, I'm pretty happy!

Or do just the opposite. List the junk at ebay for 25 cents, hope someone buys, and list the better stuff on Yahoo where you can use a reserve, bide your time, and not bleed money in the meantime.

I left eGREED for good when the extortion fee went into effect in August. I will not pay extortion fees to anyone- especially those that say only dishonest people will pay it (eGREED stated only dishonest sellers use reserve auctions- therefore, according to eGREED, only dishonest sellers will pay the extortion [reserve] fee) After starving at Golds and just getting by on Amazon, I moved to Yahoo! My sales are now what I was making on eGREED (pre extortion fee- where I qualified as a silver powerseller) and I am making $1,000. a month MORE because that is what I was giving to eGREED every month in listing and FVF - (Yahoo is FREE)
I always end my auctions at night and with eGREED had to spend my evenings listing in order to get them to end when I want them to. With Yahoo, I can list any time and set the time I want the auctions to end- for me that is the GREATEST feature.
I will not give eGREED another penny until they remove the extortion fees - and even then, I am so much happier on Yahoo I doubt I will ever do business on eGREED again (as a seller or a buyer) Every time I have gone to eGREED to research an item this last few months, eGREED has been down (as usual) why should I pay to list on a site that is down or takes hours or takes days to index my items when I have the same amount of sales and items are indexed imediately on Yahoo??? Oh- I am doing so well on Yahoo, I've been buying again!!! [on Yahoo!, of course!]

I've been selling on Yahoo, but I still have to buy on ebay. The items that I collect just aren't on Yahoo. I would rather buy on Yahoo.

I shop, I mean snipe on ebay also, but always check Yahoo for anything I want first. Unfortuantly too many sellers are still hawking what is second rate on Yahoo. I did that too in the beginning, and then listed same items on both sites and to my shock, got higher bids on Yahoo. Not once, not twice but after 10 times I figured out the good stuff ought to go to Yahoo and the throwaway 25 cents a listing stuff to ebay just to have a presence.
These days if I even remotely know what something is worth, I put it on yahoo. If something is valuable, no way do I want to sell it too cheap on Ebay or throw money away listing and relisting trying to get my dime. Never mind the inconvience of listing, both closing times and number of days, no Yahoo messenger, and worst of all, the hoops you need to jump through to get credit for deadbeats. Elsa

It seems to be picking up on Yahoo. As anything, it takes time. I used to check the new listing numbers daily ----they were only like 20,000 in August or so- watched it steadily climb and now it is getting closer to ebay numbers. We all need to stick with it- IT WILL happen! I find the int'l bidders aren't as much on Yahoo and I sell a lot to them. I put a reminder on all my shipped items to spread the word for Yahoo. It is working!

I have been selling on Yahoo! for about 8 months now and I find the people very friendly, and good bids too, deadbeat bidders are way down, atleast for me and I do not use Reserves,( a waste of time) just list at what I am willing to sell the item for and have great success and alot of repeat customers now, word of mouth is spreading, listings are way up since I started and the great part is that it is free!! I say keep up the great work Yahoo!!

Does anyone know how to contact a bidder on Yahoo? I don't see anyway to contact them until after the auction is over. Thanks

You will not be able to contact a winner in Yahoo! until the auction ends, or If you have chosen the Close Auction Early Option when submitted the auction, you can go to Manage on your auction page, click that and then choose the close auction early option, and your auction will close and you will have immediate access to the winners email address. Hope this helps you! Carol~ cpogie99 in Yahoo!

Yahoo's great for 1 reason & 1 reason only, its 'Free'. That's a huge plus compared to eBay & Amazon. There are also many features that are unique to Yahoo that is great. Every site has features that are slightly different & everyone has a different opinion about what is great & what's not.
The one big think that Yahoo lacks is customer support. I use Yahoo full time so I strongly support Yahoo but when someone can rack up a -60 rating, it just becomes a joke. When you e-mail Yahoo all you get is the standard replies with no action taken. Everyone try to check out Yahoo id: long_legged_lust
Yahoo also encourages people to make multiple Yahoo ids & that only encourages kids like the one above. Wish Yahoo would make it safer for the honest folks. Now this is not to say that this sort of thing never happens in eBay or Amazon or anywhere else. Online auction is a medium, its up to the people who use it to either make it work or abuse it. I haven't seen someone with -64 rating in eBay yet.

To All Viewers and especially comic123: We e-mailed our Yahoo! Auctions Use Abuse Coordinator at 17:10 concerning the Jerk with the -64 rating - we received a reply at 17:13 that it has been taken care of (Wow only 3 minutes - who says that Yahoo! Doesn't have Great Customer Service????) (You jsut need the right road map to get there!!!)

I was reading some threads on Auction Watch and Posting some POSITIVE COMMENTS there about OUR YAHOO!!! but then I came across a note from a user who mentioned there to check out a person with the YAHOO! ID: long_legged_lust - when checking it out we find he has a -64 - how can it be that he is still active??? Also please read his about me - when I did I found out that this is one of my FIRST DEADBEATS (can't forget a name like that)! when I first started with YAHOO! under my first user ID (xxxxxxxx) - he jerked me around for a while as I was the new kid on the block!!!
Could you please advise me what action you can take to get this person "eliminated" for our Yahoo! Auction Community???
Thanks Again,

We say whatever works for you Do It! YAHOO! Yahoo! Works for us and we Love IT!!! The world needs competition or we would still be riding horses instead of having hundreds of styles of cars to and trucks to choose from to provide for our transportation, so Please Use what suits Your Needs - YAH00! Auctions is what suits us and their Customer Service is Coming - Also Stop focasting that they will start charging fees.... your wishes sometimes come true and we will just have to put some VooDoo on all you folks wishing that happens (Just Kidding!)
For more of our thoughts here is a copy of what we have posted on the Thread Above: Concerning The Best Auction Site:
WE VOTE YAHOO! THE "BEST"!!!!!
Hi Folks - Yahoo! is the ONLY site we currently utilize. We too have had our share of DEADBEATS, but on the POSITIVE side most of OUR WINNERS who DO complete the transaction are extremely friendly and many have returned to purchase more items from us. What is nice about the repurchases is that since YAHOO! Auctions are FREE ... there is no compromise on payment of FEES. We have had customers add more items we have in our current Auctions which we don't know if you can do at the Pay Sites as we have only used ebay once and the FEEs are TOO high for use to ask our Winners to absorb!!! We LOVE YAHOO! We have found there are ways to get Customer Service Support and have helped some other sellers who have received bad feedback from the same JERK as we did, get it removed!!! You must have documentation and a clean Feedback Record but it can be accomplished. Our contact person is extremely nice. We don't believe we are at liberty to post her e-mail address but if someone has a problem with a Bad Feedback problem we will contact her on your behalf to see if she can do anything concerning your problem. As far as fees are concerned we do not support them. YAHOO! can make their money to hire a better customer service staff through their advertising fees. We use all YAHOO! services such as Voice Chat, Yahoo! Wallet, Clubs, and of Course Yahoo! Auctions. Does ebay offer that??? WE RECOMMEND YAHOO! TO THE MAX!!! We believe that with some time they will have better customer service. For information there are some(FREE)tools you may want to check out to help with your Auction experience - if you have not joined (FREE) The Online Auction Users Association please go to the following link and do so to help get our voices heard concerning ALL Auction Sites:
We have also started to use (Free)PayPal for credit card payments with no hassle to us or the customer - sure looks great to us - you can check the out at the SECURE link below and even earn money using them:
We post the above as a service to all who read this thread. If you don't want to check them out, no problem.... we are just trying to help others with some tools we have found that have helped us enhance our sales and experience with Yahoo! Online Auctions.
Thanks for your time in reading this thread and Good Luck In All Your AUCTION EXPERIENCES!

I am now making MORE in SALES on Yahoo! Auctions than I was on eGREED [where I had qualified as a "silver power seller"] PLUS I am saving $1,000. a month in listing/FV Fees- so I have an automatic $12,000 a year bonus [+ increase in sales] PER YEAR!!! It's pretty incredible to imagine I would have gladly given eGREED that much per year if they had not introduced the extortion fees on reserve auctions.
I am selling exclusively on Yahoo! Auctions and am VERY much happier than I was the last year I was selling on eGREED (I left eGREED permanantly when the extortion [reserve] fees went into effect) I never realized how stressed out I was because of eGREED.
I have had only one deadbeat bidder on Yahoo! so far- which is MUCH fewer than I had on eGREED the last month I listed there.
My goal is $150,000. in sales on Yahoo! Auctions this year (I plan on taking some time off during the year to spend time participating in my favorite sport)
I am a VERY happy camper on Yahoo! Auctions!!!
