THINK ABOUT IT !!!

A super idea just came to me. lets throw the baby out with the bath water.

forget the auctions, forget the people who are running the auctions sites, who only care about the old mightly buck !!!

why don't a handful of us big sellers get together, and start our own web page, for auctions, and have a panel of say 10 from ebay, 10 from yahoo, and 10 from amazon, be like a board, and be non profit for the people, the sellers out their who need the income. we can work out the details of the funds to keep it running, be charging the big sellers that post over 1000 or 2000 auctions. but still keep it free for the small and medium sellers out their, if we pulled together, it just could happen some day...

why do we need to depend on the status quo !!!???

Do you have any idea how much effort it takes to run a commerce site? You'll need programmers, people to maintain the site. I don't think people will just donate their time.

And why would you need people from eBay, Yahoo, and Amazon? Aren't these people the ones you're trying to get away from?

Your intents are good, but I think you're misguided in your logic.

The software is the easy part. The hardware is the expensive part.

The hardware and the software for this type of thing can be free since you can use someone elses server and software.

Problem with this IDEA is it is already being done by many.

Bidbay, epier , dutchbids, goldsauctions and many others are all auction sites run by seller who got tired of ebay and there fees.

All that needs to be done is for all sellers who are really really not listing ever again on yahoo is to all move to one of these free sites like epier.com all there thousands of Item and then all take $100 or so that you will be saveing in listing fees get the auction sites ok to buy Banner ad space on sites like AW and yahoo to advertize that auction site all over the internet.

Remember collectively as a group if there was a group of even 1000 yahoo sellers togeather each donateing $50 each that would be 50 thousand dollars in advertizeing.

5000 auction sellers putting in $100 each would be half a million in advertizeing Dollars for that site.

If seller did this weekly in about 6 to 7 months this new site would start to get noticed pretty well.

My Opinion in this matter is that at best the bigest group you could get togeather would be under 100 sellers that would agree to this type of thing.

Ill tell you why because if sellers dont want to pay .20 to list on yahoo with out garentees of selling the item they will never agree to give up a penny to help pay advertizeing for a sight they list on.

the thing here is that most these people want all these Auction bids and perks for nothing.

I have said this from the start the frist auction sight with enough buyer and sellers behind it that starts chargeing like ISPs charge $19.95 a month for unlimited listing will be the winner.

yes there will be some sellers who take advantage and list thousands of items but there are also sellers who dont have thousands of items to list or the time to list or sell that many and there are sellers that dont list at some times of the year that would pay a fee and not list one item in the month or only two of 4 weeks.

dman-- that is the best idea yet-- I agree that if it were a true "membership" site - it could be something like:

List under 100 items per month = 7.50 mo---500 items per month = 15/mo
501 to 750 = 20/ mo and so on and so on.
The fee would be a deductible for bus exp and it serves the little and big guy. Some other perks could be available for big sellers etc

I thought this waay back when it all began. Actually the ISP's lost out on this - They could have designed auctions themselves and tacked it on as a membership price.

Just a thought......

The title of this thread is offensive to me and many others. I have asked AW to remove it.

He/she has started a new one in the MC.

Pegasus: Your religion, whatever it is does not have exclusive rights to the word "god" and/or its usage. There are many religions in the world. All of them have a god or gods. Practitioners of those religions can & do cry out to their god. What's the problem?

Come to think of it, followers of the Greek pantheon should be offended at your AW ID. Pegasus? You're are taking the name of the son of a god in vain! As everyone knows, Pegasus was the son of Poseidon, god of the sea, and the Gorgon Medusa.

edited cuz "your" and "you're" are not the same!

Peg - If we stripped the world of things each person found offensive, we'd probably look a lot like the moon.

Either remove it, or cancel my auction watch membership. I do not like this type of religious harassment. It is quite offensive to me as well as many others."

Just remember that removing each and everything someone else finds offensive is why Yahoo is shutting down so many auctions. And why we have had the troubles of the last few months. Where has tolerance gone? Just because you don't think like someone else doesn't mean they should think like you.

What amazes me is that the new social order that lectures on diversity and social tolerance is the one demanding the removal of "offensive" symbolism. Movements laced with hypocrasy are scarey in themselves, and usually lead down the path to despotism. It's the old 'you have to respect my beliefs but yours are offensive!' routine.
