The vast majority of buyers search for items on ebay and only ocasionally take a look at Yahoo. How many buyers do you think will take the time to look at a 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th site? If one of the free sites does not emerge as the overwhelming favorite (as Yahoo did) most sellers will find themselves with two choices: Pay eBay's fees or pay Yahoo's fees. I started supporting AuXPal because the majority of sellers are leaning that way. I thought the Fair Market Sites would have been a better choice but I'm more interested in seeing the momemtum continue than debating the pros and cons of a dozen different sites. BidBay, & maybe Epier seem to be the next popular choices but I don't see any advantages more important than AuxPal's momentum . I no longer mention other sites because I believe it is counter productive.

I think sellers will spread out to the specific sites which will produce sales for them; that is, most likely sellers will migrate to a variety of sites instead of just one specific site. From my testing, some sites produce sales in given categories for us, but nothing in other categories. If you eliminate the Big 2 (Yahoo, eBay) then I have found, that on the next 6, it seems to be more what I am selling - that is some items seems to sell well on one and not on another, and so on. So, many expatriates of Yahoo may have to use 2 or more of the smaller auctions to find consistent sales if they sell in more than one category.

In the last 2 weeks we have had sales at almost all our other test auction sites except AuXpal, and ePier, but we are still testing on them.

I listed auction on AUXPAL They are going fast in number of listing but I listed 25 items there that have been there over 24 hours now with out any veiws.

Im kinda starting to wonder if trying to tie all auction togeather through a service like smooth sales might be be the best way to go I havent done a lot of research on this live auction service but if it will tie my ebay auxpal and other auction togeather it might help the veiws and sales on all site I list on.

if the new free listing sites can gain views and bidding indirectly at least at frist.

I think AuXpal is having problems with the counters! They loaded a csv file that I emailed them with 280+ listings! All the counters read 1! I have sold 2 items! The counters still read 1. I made mention of my current listings on Auxpal to a few of my Yahoo winners! They looked at a few of my listings. However, the counters don't reflect that!

[jwpc} Yahoo offered a realistic alternative to eBay because it emerged as the overwhelming favorite of the available free sites. Regardless of category, none of these sites have more than a trickle of bidders. Nothing compared to Ebay and Yahoo. I've been listing with and looking at free sites for months, Fair Market, Up 4 Sale, Collecting Nation, Beckett Auctions, and have never seen any significant bidding activity. If you have some specific categories on specific sites where you have had more than a handful of sales, I would be very interested in knowing which ones they are. Easy enough to understand why sellers are checking out multiple sites, but I doubt most believe they will have consistent sales if one of those sites does not emerge as the clear favorite for buyers and sellers.

I've been a buyer on Yahoo over the past month or so, buying sports cards of a player I collect. I'm getting a decent amount of mail from the dealers in their auction end notices that they are moving to Auxpal, and are going to be listing there. That's the one site that seems to get mentioned a lot. I think their referral program is helpful as well, I hope their momentum gains, and the customers follow them over. I'm quite surprised at the amount of bidding on my items (I have 35 auctions there now) - I honestly was not expecting anything, or not very much. Something like 6 of my auctions have bids, and one closed with a bidder already.

I checked out Auxpal as a buyer. For the categories where I shop-vintage toys, pyrex, I found little or no listings.

Time is valuable to me. If I'm going to window shop, or bid, I'll have to spend my time where the merchandise is-Ebay.

This is the same reason I will resume listing on Ebay-if I'm going to spend that much time listing, I want someone to see my merchandise. I sincerely hope that one of the other sites does emerge as a leader, but I have to consider the bottom line-paying the bills!

This is true. Exactly my point. If one of the free sites does not emerge as the overwhelming favorite sellers will have little alternative to paying Ebay's or Yahoo's fees. I could argue for months and insist that Lycos (subsitute the name of your current favorite) is the best choice. But I'm more interested in having a real alternative to the pay sites. The "best choice" is the site the majority of sellers are supporting. AuxPal is our best choice.

Just went to Auxpal to do some more listing and found I could get nowhere. If their servers are slow now with only 117,000 we are in trouble with them. I emailed customer service to see what they had to say. I know we have to start somewhere. I started ebay when they had 400,000 and tons of downtime. Started yahoo when you waited months just for a bid. So I guess I will stick with Auxpal they are my favorite new site. Got my fingers crossed...

I just posted a few items and was browsing through categories. No problems navigating the site from here. I'm not trying to be funny, but is AOL your ISP?

I have to suppose that the majority looking for a new "free" site understand that the activity, any activity on the site, is not going to happen overnight. It's going to take time and a great deal of effort on all our parts.

The fact is that we will eventually get out of it what we put into it. It's not a matter of waiting for somebody else to do it or waiting for a bidder to just happen along... The results we achieve will be directly related to the time we devote to it.
It won't happen overnight but it will happen! Our persistance will pay off.

I think dman's statement about the SmoothSale button is worth looking into. There has been so much information to sort through lately that I keep forgetting about SmoothSale. I think it can tie things up pretty well from what I've heard.

I'm very impressed with the responsiveness of AuxPal and the constant upgrades they are implementing. I easily see them as the up and coming site we are looking for. I'm notifying all of my bidders and will do the same for my former customers. I've gotten nothing but gratitude from my accounts for letting them know of newer horizons.

We are all working together and I guarantee it will pay off. Patience and persistance.

I ran a test run on Auxpal with only 12 auctions for 7 days and 5 closed with winners. I have had 70 auctions on YaCrap for the past 7 days and only had 3 winners. Jeez which site would I use?

I actually have a "hot" item on Auxpal - 14 bids on this item (mostly by 2 bidders) and the auction closes in 3 days.

I'm going to do more listing over there.

As far as not much to buy, I agree. I was looking for something that had something like 15 listings at Auxpal, and 7000 listings at Ebay. I still will look at Auxpal first now, and will bid there when I can. Sellers should support the auction site by buying there as well.

I think their referral program also will help them, that is what drove the success of Paypal.

That's great lkaras. Over half your listings have already sold on Auxpal? Please share your secret. I'm listing there but with no luck so far. The items I'm listing normally sell fairly well. I'm staying however as long as I don't have to pay "rent" on the site.

>>AuxPal is down for me ... already they can't handle the load!<<

Not an issue of capacity or being able to "handle the load". It was a software problem caused by what is believed to be a malicious attack from an unregistered user. Steps have already been taken to prevent a similar problem in the future. The details are posted on AuxPal's website. I realize you posted before AuxPal's announcement was available, but I have more confidence in AuxPal than some of the other sites because they are part of Nobidding Inc.

No secret. I sell toys, sent out a couple of emails to customers just to let them know no more YaCrap auctions. Most of the feedback I have gotten from them is positive about the site.

I second that notion. AuXpal has to be expected to take a few bumps and bangs as it grows. It has a seasoned crew behind it and they are really listening to what we want and doing what they can to make it our site. I have been chuckling all day as they don't seem to mind junk sales. You figure 10 day runs with 99 relists!!!!!! If your item doesn't sell in 990 days you better find a trash bag for it. ROFLMAO

"because they are part of Nobidding Inc. "

Is this what one would call a Fruedian Slip Name? I don't see too many bids at AuxPal

"they don't seem to mind junk sales"

Or illegal items (check out the videos listings - some of the descriptions even admit they are bootlegs!!)

RB - I have to admit that gave me a chuckle but the nobidding site has set prices, not an auction site. And I have been seeing as many bids, if not more, on AuXpal as I did on Yahoo. I do think they would be concerned about illegal activities and/or sales. They are going to put in an adult section but have to have the safeguards in place to prevent minors from accessing the area. I am sure they would like to know those auctions are listed.

Well, I would try to help them get rid of the illegal bootlegs but from past experience with other auction sites (eBay and Yahooooo), it's like pulling teeth. AuxPal especially does not want to end listings or piss off listers at this point.

While I sincerely hope that AuxPal makes it for you folks that are really hooked on this on line auction thing, I am still amazed at how quickly people forget all the promises made and broken by eBay, PayPal, Yahoooooo, Gold's and all the others. It's just too soon to start waving AuxPal Pom Poms. I'd be willing to bet that if they do make it past the first year, you'll all be back here 12 months from now whinging about how AuxPal lied to you when they start introducing fees and developed a multi-volume Rule Book

RB - Fortunately I have enough sense to realize that they will have to establish some sort of rules, etc with which to function. Chaos is not my idea of fun. And I am all for their rules, etc. I want a safe, fun place to have a little hobby and I am hoping this will be it. And I know there are alot out there like me. However, I have noticed the BIG influx of scams, schemes, etc and guess we just have to figure out how to work around them to the best of our ability. I think we, the sellers had some good ideas while at Yahoo but NO VOICE! And I am hoping AuXpal will be different. But mind you, I am listing on several of the other smaller sites also. It will take a while for me to totally believe or trust after this last slap across the face.

Well just checked my AuxPal Auctions. I have a total of 15 closed auctions with winners, and some of these auctions are Dutch. I have 3 more auctions with bids on them. Out of a total of about 180 auctions, about a 10% sell through. I haven't seen that kind of sell through sense Yawhoo started it's credit card verification bull.

I am a buyer & a seller.

When I buy, I always opt to look in galleries. Life is too short to go to a site and choose items based on titles & click in and look at the picture, based only on a title.

Hopefully the alternative sites will understand this and crank up the galleries soon!

At present, Who has the best gallery?? Hands down - YAHOO. Because of that, YAHOO is the first place I go to search hopefully for new listings of my collectibles.

Ebay is my 2nd choice and Amazon is 3rd.

As a seller - I sell on YAHOO, Ebay & Amazon & am trying AuxPal & BidBay. I get sales on YAHOO, Ebay & Amazon - nothing on AuxPal & BidBay.

My take is no picture gallery - few or no sales!

Think about it!

I have started slowly moving my auctions to Auxpal and several have bids which I didn't really expect this early in the game. I started putting a link to Auxpal in my emails to all my customers on ebay and yahoo. The bids I got are from actual bidders not sellers which is a good sign.I would like to see some rules to hold down spammers. One day auction with 99 relists is not a good thing. There are several things they could put in place to keep things under control and I'm sure they will. This is a learning experience for them as well as us. I'm going to hang in there for a while.
