Holtz sure made a lot of non-specific statements but when it came to providing SPECIFIC info, there were no figures available...yeah, right!

Excerpt from the article >
... who sells Jaz drives and other storage devices on Yahoo, said he's seen a huge jump in the number of auctions he's closing. He usually lists about five to 10 new items each week, and since the listing fees went into effect, the percentage of his auctions that close with a sale has gone from about 15 percent prior to the fees to about 80 percent now.
Well, I just might have located the seller.
Strange, though, because he sold SIX items in the four week prior to the implementation of listing fees, only FIVE since.
Anyway, the article mentions this seller lists five to ten items every week, so he's listed 20 to 40 items since listing fees began on January 10, which would translate to a sell-through rate of 12.5% to 25% on closed auctions.
He does have five bids on nine live auctions, which will be a 56% sell-through rate.

And despite the drop, the amount of goods actually sold through Yahoo has remained steady and the percentage of auctions that end with a sale has increased. He would not offer specific figures."
What a crock!!! Why do they make a Yahoo employee PUBLICLY LIE, instead of just telling him to say "no comment" or HIDE from the press???
Unless their intent in implementing the listing fees was to DECIMATE, to totally ANNIHILATE their Auction, then there's **no way in the world** the "drop is in line with what the company expected", or that they're "thrilled with the changes listing fees has made to our site", or that they believe "the new fees...have helped to raise the quality of the items".
BALONEY!
You would also have to show me the figures PROVING that "despite the drop, the amount of goods actually sold through Yahoo has remained steady and the percentage of auctions that end with a sale has increased."
Most of the items that have sold were bid on because THE SELLERS DRASTICALLY CUT PRICES, and the bidders who've been sitting on the fence knew the merchandise would NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE on Yahoo after the fees kicked in and the sellers all left. What amazes me is that MORE merchandise didn't sell on Yahoo during the past month of bargain prices and close-outs.
Today around noon I counted all the listings on Yahoo's entire Auction, and I came up with under 280,000 (though I don't know how many of those were duplicates of single listings, since some sellers have reported their auctions having 3 and 4 false dupes). Unless sellers start putting on new listings or relists, that figure will be about 150,000 on Monday. And most of the remaining listings are bulk-loaded posters & prints, trading cards, used clothes, beanies, computer software, and hard-core pornography. From the prices realized and the level of bidding activity in all areas of the Auction, it looks like the only people who will be able to AFFORD TO PAY the listing fees (out-of-pocket) are the sellers of pornography.
I guess THEY are the ones Yahoo says have "raised the quality" and "have stayed and are reaping the benefits" of "the changes listing fees have made to our site".....because they're the only ones getting bids.

With Yahoo!Auctions in a death spiral, they must have been increasingly thrilled with each passing week.

Hmmm ... how many "Jaz drives and other storage devices" does the average bidder purchase over the course of a couple years?
Sure, there will always be a market for new retail merchandside sold for pennies above wholesale. That type of product is necessary on any auction site, and thank goodness there are sellers who provide those type of auctions.
But the Yahoo powers-that-be, Troy, and the Jaz driver seller seem unable to see the forest for the trees. If the ONLY thing I plan to purchase online this year is a digital camera, do they really believe it would occur to me to look for it at the Yahoo Auction site UNLESS that is a site I frequent for other types of merchandise?
Let's say I am a stamp collector, and I like to add a dozen or so stamps to my collection per month. If I don't see anything of interest on Yahoo Auctions, I am going to stop looking there. When the times come to bid on that digital camera, looking for it on Yahoo is going to be the furthest thing from my mind. I'm going to look for it on eBay, where I have routinely been searching for, locating, and bidding on my stamps. How does that benefit Mr. Jaz Drive?
it looks like the only people who will be able to AFFORD TO PAY the listing fees (out-of-pocket) are the sellers of pornography.
You are correct again. Yahoo is inundated with Porno and it's not only in the adult section. For example: check out the "Auctions > Clothing & Accessories > Men's > Jeans" category. There is more XXX videos than there are jeans.
Yahoo will not even enforce their own rules anymore. Wonderful changes are being made on their site and the porno dealers are reaping the benefits.....

I didn't know there was that much porn in Yahoo, no wonder I have been getting so much HOT STUFF email. Some have gone so far as to set a stamp theme and title emails "Lick em and stick em!!!!" LOLOL not really funny when it turns out to be porn when you think your going to find stamps.
Can this type email hurt your computer if you open it?
If you are finding this you have every reason to be upset, these people get off on offending others. Can you imagine what their feedback ratings say? LOLOLOLO!!

Well there is NOTHING left in a couple of the categories I use to post in......apparently the only thing legal to sell/promote/give in California is aids and Porn!

outoftheblue,
I hadn't looked in 'men's jeans', but the 'gay/lesbian magazines', 'movie memorabilia', 'pinups', 'fine photographs', 'actors & actresses autographs' subcategories (NONE of which are in the Adult section) have ALWAYS been full of porn---magazines and explicit photos of actresses, mostly. I used to report them to Yahoo abuse when I found that the NW did nothing, and Yahoo made little effort to clean up their own Auction.
If Yahoo's going to allow hardcore listings, the LEAST they can do is make sure they're placed in the Adult section. They even show up as HOT AUCTIONS on the home pages. If you don't believe me, just look at the "Art: fine photographs" category.

Hello granee,
I ask that you please edit the link in your post, as some users may find it offensive. You may give instructions on where to find the information.

Sorry, Marty Moderator, I thought it was OK to link to a category if it didn't point out a specific auction.
Interesting that YOU see that it may be offensive to people, but Yahoo doesn't worry about it offending anyone....and it's on the "non-restricted" access, public portion of their Auction where any CHILD can stumble across it.
