Friday night, my computer decided to "re-boot" itself and when it came back up I had no mouse! Try as I might, I couldn't get that thing back! I was finally able to figure out how to tab through and actually get into Outlook express to see if I had any mail and of course I had several "questions" needing replys!!!!

Unfortunately, I could not figure out a way to answer! All I could do was tab onto the email and open it, but could not find a way to "reply". I pulled out my old trusty backup antique computer and by Saturday evening I was up and running again. Unfortunately, I lost all the email address and everything on the other computer. I have a friend who said they would go through my files while trying to figure out what is wrong with my computer and if they can pull out the addresses they'll let me know. Well, the auctions are closing tonight.

I feel just awful! How is that going to look to anyone who ask me a question and didn't get an answer????? What kind of seller are they going to think I am?????

There was also one email from someone that was wondering if I would close the auction early if they bid $XXXXX on the item. Right now that thing is sitting there with no bids! It may very well close with no bids or perhaps just one at my starting price. The price this person was offering to pay was more than satisfactory to me!!!!!

Anyone ever have this happen to them????

Should I use the edit feature and just add the info requested to the bottom of the auction pages???? Do you think anyone who emailed me directly would even bother to look at the auction again, since from their point of view I didn't even bother to reply to them?????

Did you try rebooting again? Also, you may need a new mouse. Try hooking up another mouse to the puter. If this doesn't work, do you have yahell pager?? I can try to help ya with it. This happened with my keyboard once and I had to buy a new one.

Hi! auctionqueenie! Yes, I tried everything to get the mouse back, but it just wasn't there. I kept being told "you need to attach a mouse!!!!

That's why I finally pulled out my old computer and knocked the dust off.

The person looking at my computer now, says it looks like I have a bad mouse port and that is easy enough to fix. Just need a new port!!!!

He told me my addresses are still in my computer, and he can retrieve them for me, but I am running out of time! It'll be after work before he can get them for me and by then it will be too late.

Try cold booting the computer. Turn it off for a good 20 seconds and then turn it on. another thing is to check the connection of the mouse to the computer. Unplug it totally and plug it back in. Be careful not to bend any pins in the connection. It might be just a loose connection.

IF that doesnt work, try another mouse. I agree, if the second mouse doesnt work, somehow, you might have blown your mouse card

No, he's not really a computer technician, just someone who offered to help. He took my computer and when he attached his mouse, it didn't work either. As far as he can tell, there isn't anything else wrong with it.

He told me he'll just pick up a new card and pop it in for me.

My son, who does do this kind of stuff told me that it's usually cheaper than trying to fix one. He could do it but he's a couple of hundred miles away!!!!

My son also got a chuckle, he told me I am the only person he knows who could "kill the mouse"!!!!!

as soon as you get back up, simply e-mail your buyers and sellers and let them know. most will understand

Sulyn1950,

If you're using a PS2 mouse, in a pinch you could get a serial port mouse. Those are common. You could then skip the repair if you want

auctionqueenie-I will be able to email you! I am using my old computer, it has never let me down!

I've got the end of auctions tonight covered. My only real concern was over the email I could not answer Friday and Saturday and the fact I am temporarily unable to access the addresses.
They are across town in my temporarily disabled new machine! I am beginning to wonder why I traded my old faithful in on a new model to begin with. This one has given me nothing but irritation!

I decided to go on in and edit the auctions that I had questions on. At least the ones I could remember. There weren't that many so it didn't take long.

I don't know if those posing the questions will bother to return to the auction. I am afraid they will write me off because I did not respond to their email! I try so hard to provide good customer service. I just feel I've failed on this round! I don't know if I'll get a second chance!

Thanks everybody for the suggestions on how to fix my mouse.

There Are other reasons as well that a computer will shut its self down and restart with missing ports the mouse or its port its self wont cause the computer to reboot.

I have seen and heard of this a lot much of the time its not the port thats bad many times for one reason or the other the bus card its self get loose in side the computer or starts going bad or worse yet it shorts out a few pins on the mother board the bus plugs into or pins on the bus its self go bad.

Loseing a mouse port dont cause a computer to reboot on its own The problem usually goes deeper a posible virus that has made a change in the computers bios or cmos That would require a computer to reboot its self for the change to take place many of these viruses are programed once running to work in the back ground with out your knowing includeing a command to reboot to make changes effective.

This is one of the frist things a tech would look into.

Another poibility is that your surge protector was getting old and there was a small surge that got to your computer or HD a just deleted some parts of files part of the mouse driver might have been deleted so on a cold reboot the scan disk would just put the odd file peice it couldnt fix in a folder now there is no mouse driver.

Some times a computer that just reboots out of no where is a sign of a mother board over heating as well or a power supply going bad or over heating.

A Weak power supply can cause all kinds of freaky things to happen while useing your computer if the suppl;y dont at times have power to turn some hardware on when it get the IRQ signal.

For instance a bad power supply at odd times when you are useing your computer and sound trys to play but not enough power to make it work window will freak out and shut your sound card down if you want the sound to work you will need to reboot also a cause of this can be Bad Ram memory area's.

Ram and Rom memory when you boot your computer gets formated just like your HD drive gets formated to install windows only memory get formated each time you boot up the computer if there is a bad area of memory your computer cant re route around this always if your computer requires more mem then it can find so your computer reboots with messed up memory format.

Thing about memory is there is on board memory that is the built in memory on the mother board you get with the computer standard then there is the ram you add later the computer will alway use the on board built in mem first then move to the extended memory area if the on board mem goes bad some how many times you need to replace the mother board to fix this.

Any how good luck in getting things going for sure if replaceing the mouse port works your in luck but there is a chance this will only be a temporary fix as the computers rebooting is caused from another problem that caused this port to go bad in the frist place.

Next time it dont have to be a simple as cooking a mouse port it could effect the video driver and cook the monitor.

Many times when these odd thing happen its best to go for the money to dig deeper maybe rebuild your computer to insure your other higher cost hardwear is safe or go out and just find a new processor break downs are not only costly due to repairs but if you sell on line they are tough on your business why take chances either way.

Why don't you boot up the puter, write down the email addys or print out the emails using the print commands. Ctrl + P is print command. Then you can simply compose an email.

Just wondering...did they all e-mail you directly or use the "Ask Seller A Question"? If the latter, you can go to the question and answer page to answer the question and the answer will be e-mailed to them by Yahoo.

I don't mean to sound stupid, but I am afraid thios question might be.

Did you try going into your closed auctions agetting the email addresses from the auction pages? Or am I totally off the wall, missing the point and lost at sea here?
