I've always noticed when I clicked show only photos on my listings several would not show up. The list would show 150 ads but the show photos page would only show about 135 and I never could figure out why.

Now that I'm running so few ads I see the difference. I scanned 4 items but took photos with a digital camera for the rest. The 4 that were scanned do not appear on the show photos page. Those 4 pics look normal in the ads though. I can never get a good digital photo of a very small item so those are the only things I ever scan.

Has anyone ever noticed this problem and does anyone have a solution? TIA

Hello,

I had that problem for awhile! I used the bulk loader and incurred that problem which was due to the HTML in my ad. Sometimes they would capture the image url and create the thumbnail! Sometimes not!

When I first started, I kept reading about crunching photo's down to a certain size 55K I believe. I knew nothing about any of that so when I scanned, I cropped and reduced dpi until most of my images were less than 35K! Then of course when I saved them my program crunched them even smaller. When I uploaded to Yahoo, everything looked fine.

I began noticing many images were not showing up in the "Picture only" and was real upset and kept emailing Yahoo! and they would email back a dumb canned message telling me to be sure my images were no larger than 55K. Every time I got one of this, I would crunch some more. Finally, I guess they got tired of my emails and someone ACTUALLY took a look and emailed back "some of your picture files are too small and are not being picked up by our servers"!!!!!

Maybe your images are either too large or too small??????

I still know NOTHING about that stuff, but I quit crunching my images and have had no problem since.

Thanks for your answers. I don't know the difference between K's and KB's but my photos that are showing OK are between 30 and 70 KB's, but so are the ones not showing. I've heard of people getting a "your photo is too small" error message when listing but I've never gotten that.

I usually set the scanner to 200% to get more detail since the items are small. I'd rather figure out why my Mavica won't take a decent picture of small stuff. I've tried auto and manual focus but can't ever get a useable shot on any item less than 3x3 inches.

I never bothered emailing Yahoo because of all the canned responses that have nothing to do with your issue.

It's way past my bedtime, keep the helpful hints coming & I'll see you guys later.

Although I am not posting on Yahoo at this time, and may never again; over the last year we posted heavy, and we use both digital photos and scanned photos. We pull all our photos in through PaintShop Pro7, and adjust size, color, sharpness, etc. We have NEVER had a photo fail to appear on Yahoo regardless of how the picture was taken. On photos in our ads, we normally run 200 to 300 pixels. For our gallery photos, we normally down sized them to 100 pixels.

In the last few months, after being nagged to death by my husband, I have also started using ULead's Optimizer, which greatly reduces the down load time for any photo. I have to admit now, that he is right, as when one logs on to our postings the photos appears much faster after being optimized, and we lost no clarity.

If your pictures won't crunch to decent thumbnails it wont be included in the show photos only search.

Do a test on your listings check individually which ones are not shown in the photo only list and you will see a pattern develope.

It could the file size (kb wise) it could have to do with dimensions (short height but very wide)

Look for stuff like that and you will find it.

I have some very, very large photos on my YaWho listings (some are resized when I upload them) and they ALL "crunch" down into thumbnails for the "show only photos" viewing, so I can't imagine that's the problem.

I also scan the majority of my photos, and I've never had a problem with them not producing thumbnails on YaWho's "gallery".

The proportions MIGHT be the problem, as suggested above---if your 4 photos not on the "gallery" are extremely wide or extremely tall???

Thanks for your input everyone, the problem is now solved!

As I said the KB size was roughly the same for all my photos, which doesn't really make sense. To make sure it wasn't a problem with the scanner software or something I re-took the pics using the camera. I edited the auctions, deleted the scans and inserted the digital pics. That didn't work, still no thumbnails.

Next, I re-scanned the items but instead of cropping I left a bit of background. That's what finally worked. I guess it was a height issue, on my monitor the ones not showing were about 3/4 inch shorter than the most of my pics. The new scans are larger with the extra background. It may look like bad photography but at least all items are showing on shop by photo.

Yipee!

Something I noticed that makes a difference is that sometimes I forget to load my pictures before I create my description.

If I create description of item and move forward to review, and back up and load pictures, my pictures do not show up in the gallery.

To make it work right, I have to CUT out my description, Load my pictures and then PASTE my description back.

I discussed this with a friend, and she found same thing works for her.

Sounds crazy but works for us.
