mint4you, you said, "Some sellers have given bidders the okay to change their minds to not honor the sale, even when the reason is 'not' justified. I feel, this is a bad precedent to set."

Some of us were guilt of that (myself included) because our listings on Yahoo were FREE, and it didn't cost us anything but time and a little effort to cancel the winner and relist when the buyer deadbeated. As long as my winner let me know right away that he wouldn't be completing the sale, I didn't even neg him before relisting (regardless the excuse). It's those who strung me along, never responding one way or the other, or those who kept promising to pay (but never did) that I hated to deal with.

Now that YaWho is charging for listings it's a different ballgame, and the seller has more at stake when the buyer deadbeats.....but you can't really blame Yahoo sellers for their PAST leniency. After all, we had no idea the fees were coming, nor that we were "manufacturing" repeat deadbeaters when we took the less-confrontational, more compassionate way out and just let them off the hook.

I had a similar experience last week. This particular auction was on another site, but after I sent him a NPB, I got this message from him:

sorry but when i bid on your items i also had been on one that i really
wanted and got outbid. since i lost that auction i no longer am interested
in the two items i won. I'm very, very sorry and hope that you will forgive
me and not leave - feedback, i would appriciate it greatly, if there is
something i can do for you, email me.

Well, me being the kind soul that I am, (NOT) responded with this:

Your bid is a contract and you should honor it, otherwise you should not be
bidding on @#$%. This is a second income for me and I take it very
seriously. I expect everyone else to take it seriously too, and I always
leave appropriate feedback to those who do not follow through on their bids.

You should also be aware that I pay fees to list items and a % on the sale
price. If the bidder does not follow through with his end of the bargain, I
file for a refund of my fees. When this happens, EBAY looses money, and
they do not like that. After a person gets 4 of these, they get kicked off
ebay.

If you choose not to follow through, that is your decision. But as a result
of that decision, you have to accept the consequences. I cannot in good
conscience, not leave negative feedback. Other people should know that you
are not taking your committments seriously.

Not too bad, eh? I am tired of deadbeats. 1/3 of my last batch of auctions turned out to be deadbeats. 'Tis one of the reasons I'm retiring, that, and all the fees.
