Ok I think I have removed all the information that would be considered promotional.....
Here's my post edited!

My business has been very tightly linked to auction sites for driving sales.

If your your like me after getting hit with Yahoo's new and much smaller position in the internet world of auctions

And then ebay's more restrictive rules and You were left scratching your head and say what do I do now
to generate sales and profitablity?

I have started to look for other places with low overhead for sales. Some have traction, some don't....

So here's what I done in the last 3 months:

1) Started auctioning on 7 other sites.

2) Paying for keywords through 10 different click engines.

3) Mailing my weekly newsletter religously.

4) Cut out the middleman on 2 suppliers.

5) Come up with a really unique offer on my site and promoted it.

6) Posted to some very specific on topic bullentin boards.

7) Heavily analyzed where and how my sales were coming in. And modified my offerings to come closer to them.

8) New Banner programs

9) working to get affiliates

So here's what happiness level with sales is for each on a 0-100% scale with the results:
(0 - unhappy 50 - so-so 100 elated)

1) 40% - not much traffic and small sales

2) 55% - Can't condemn them, after analysis 2 of the services are outright theft of service. But the remaining ones made me happy

3) 85% - My prior customers and fellow collectors make me happy to be in business.

4) 100% - I fixed to problems in one shot, removed a supplier who was not shipping on time and now paying less

5) 80% - I took excess inventory and turned it in to traffic. Free Blanketsleepers seemed to do the trick

6) 80% I couldn't believe the responses I got just from giving my expertise. But it is extremely labor intensive.

7) 100% I started focusing on this and I quadrupled my traffic and sales because I stumbled into a few places that were just right for my offerings.

8) 55% They are above so-so because it doesn't take me much effort to incorporate them.

9) 30% We have a great program but there are so many others out there that have messed people up that no one wants to listen....

So what have you been doing and what is your happieness level on each? Let's keep to the 0 to 100 scale.

Rich

glad to see you posted again. Unfortunately my response to your original post got lost in cyberspace. I don't have the energy to re-post right now but I'll hopefully be back tomorrow to add my 2¢.

Hello richatvns,

Thanks for the edit! Now you can create a sig line that is non-promotional

Go to 'MY ACCOUNT' tab, upper right and click on preferences link to create your sig line. You can have the URL to your homepage but no promotional wording.

What I'm up to these days:

1) looking for a "real" job. (so far, 0% satisfaction, 20% of my energy.)
2) helping my boyfriend with his projects- web design, graphics, etc. (100% satisfaction, 50% of my energy.)
3) Online selling (?????% satisfaction, and about 30% of my energy.) Sales split between Yahoo, Pootah, & Amazon.com marketplace at the moment. Will be working on establishing a presence on Epier also. I usually have some ebay auctions running as well, but I don't right now and won't till the site seems to function a little better. Hopefully soon.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciated your post and was happy to read your insights. It looks like you are an innovator, and that your hard work is paying off- Good for you!!! some other people posted some insights that I found valuable in a thread from awhile back called "auction strategies".

edited to add- believe it or not my sales on Yahoo are still going strong.

You must be a great person to be able to work with your significant other.

I think I would drive my girlfriend crazy if we worked together.

Thus bringing personal satisfaction below 50%!
