I guess they want to get a piece of the great big porn pie? I wonder how their advertisers are going to feel about this. Interesting strategy to improve their profitability!

I don't know, birdwatcher. Maybe their bottom end will improve though. The article did state something to the effect that they were also going announce their second quarterly loss in a row.

Profitability for Yahoo at what cost???
Their Respectability?
Their Morality?
Their Dignity?
Their Ethics?
Their Credibility?
NO WONDER YaWho has continually failed to police their own Auction for pornographic listings placed everywhere BUT the adult section---they're selling porn on their own Yahoo Shopping, and getting a piece of the action in addition to Storefront fees.
What do they care if explicitly graphic hardcore pornographic videos and photographs are listed with the Barbie Dolls for any 5-year-old child to see??? They OBVIOUSLY don't care what kind of sleazy reputation (or infamy) they achieve with the public---which AOL and Microsoft DO care about, from indications in the article of their refusal to do the same.
NO WONDER YaWho ran all of us off EXCEPT the "adult" sellers---the Bots don't make enough money off "respectable" listings to fool with us.
How pathetic. And disgusting. And deeply disappointing.
From article:
"Yahoo President Jeff Mallett said in an interview that pornography remained a small portion of the more than seven million products Yahoo offered through some 13,000 retail partners.
But he added Yahoo was comfortable offering controversial pornographic material as part of a broad commerce platform. "We are hard and fast on being the largest enabler of commerce on the Web," he said. "We have chosen to offer adult-oriented items as part of that."
------------
The article also states Yahoo is cutting 420 jobs and some features to be named later.

"Analysts told the Times that the sale of porn may alienate companies that advertise with the company. Yahoo! is expected to report its second consecutive quarterly loss today."
