I paid for an item on Yahoo by check. It hasn't been delivered, and he doesn't respond to emails. All I have is the guy's name and bank account number. What can I do?

you can try calling him,is his phone number listed with yahoo??
or you can file usps fraud report as this is mail order fraud, also there is an online fraud investigation site you can report.
email him and let him know you are about to file fraud claim with usps, copies will go to his local police station and local chamber of commerce.no one cares about local chamber of commerce, but it is intimidating to get a letter from the police.
have you contacted yahoo??

I don't think his tel number is with yahoo. Is there a particular yahoo service or search available? I've tried to get a response from yahoo but they just email me back the automated response/list of things to do, give him a bad rating, make a 'claim' with yahoo all of which I've done. I was hoping there was some way yahoo would contact him. filing fraud claim with the usps is a great idea and i will try that although I don't have his address, just his bank and bank account number. Do you happen to have the url for this as well as the online fraud investigation site.

Thanks so much for your help

how did you send him payment if you dont have his address??
did you use online payment?
if so,which payment service,it should have his name and addr and phone number.
to file usps mail fraud, you have to go to post office and pick up a form .
also ftc said seller will ship goods within 30 days after payment received,so you have to wait 30 days.
it looks like you need to call him once just to see what his story is,how much is involved?

I sent the check to his bank giving his account number. I know, that was dumb - first time for me with yahoo auctions - and he said that was the safest most effective way. I thought that if i had his account number he was legit. I would call him, but don't have his tel number. The amount was (gasp) $1600.

thanks again for your help.

holy smoke 1600 dollars deposited right to his bank account, what are you waiting for?
call his bank ,give them his account number and ask for name and addr and telephone number of your seller.
lets hope the account is still open?
also once you have his name and address, run to the post office and get a copy of the fraud report form, there is also website on cyberfraud ,fbi and another organisation,do a search and you will find them.
if his bank would not give out the information, run to your bank and have your banker call his bank.
dont wait,he could have closed his bank account already, but anyway, his bank should have his registration information, this is fraud ,.

I take it your check has cleared so the money has been deposited to the seller's account. You might want to talk to your bank to see if they have any suggestions.

You can also use Yahoo's FB system to try and contact the seller. Since Yahoo allows you to post FB as long as the auction is in their data base you can leave lots of messages!!!

Might want to start off with a "please contact me I have not received by $1600 item yet!"

If you post it under a "neutral" you are giving him the benefit of the doubt.

If he is a hit and run artist you can go back and add another FB with a neg. If it turns out to be a legitimate oversite (you can hope) then you can go back later and add FB with a pos. Of course if he is a con-artist he won't care about your FB and we all know that FB doesn't really amount to much, but it can at least provide you with an outlet for your frustration!

You can as I said leave lots of FB using the Neutral rating. I would start with one a day asking for the seller to contact you.

Also, try and contact Yahoo again. They have that insurance program don't they? Tell them that you need to find out how to file for the insurance provided for your "protection" that is promised by Yahoo!

Yahoo definitely needs a dedicated FRAUD REPORTING C/S contact number EASY TO FIND. ALL auction sites do. If they are going to rely on the users to police the site, they at least need to give us a place to report such abuses that will receive immediate response.

Good luck.

408-349-3300 is yahoo number.
408 349 3335 is pay direct number,
-one possible scenario is that some sellers especially expensive electronic goods like camera and pc and laptops,do not have the goods on hand, they just list the items with pictures and once they have your money ,they place an order with your money or they use drop shipment (very common in auction),they instruct the drop shipper to ship to you.
FTC said seller have 30 days to ship after payment,so you need to figure this out.
he is not answering your email ,could be he is running into problem with drop shipping or procuring the goods, you need to call him and get an answer from him.

Unless, Yahoo has changed their policy in the last year, they will NOT give you a telephone number. I tried to get one about a year ago. Turns out I would have to have the police or FBI contact them to get the number. They would not give it directly to me. I would prefer to attempt to contact the seller myself BEFORE going to the police or FBI.

My personal opinion on the matter is that if anyone is going to sell online, they need to provide contact information that can be used if need be. Yes, there are strange people out there, but can you imagine any other business not allowing a customer to contact them especially if there is a problem????

if yahoo would not give out phone number, then yahoo needs to contact the seller for you?
ebay used to let everyone get others address and phone number, then some folks have their house broken into,so now they just give phone number and the state .
some folks like to speak to the seller so they can gauge if they feel confident enough to bid,or they may have some questions they like to ask over the phone?
you need to call his bank to find out if the account is still open and if there is any money left in the bank, one excuse you can use is that you have been instructed to deposit a sum to this account and you want to be sure it it has gone through
