I received a message from Yahoo 3 days ago to say that my account was overdue, it was $6.90. I have written 3 times with no response, so I called today, and was told that it is because I am Canadian, and from now on Canadians can only sell on Yahoo Canada. I am really upset, I have been selling on Yahoo.com for 21/2 years, and I was so happy when the new listing fees came in, now I find that I am exluded from selling. The unhelpful person at Yahoo said there was no way around it, Canadians can no longer sell on Yahoo.com. Did anyone else know this, I have had no notice about it, although the person at Yahoo assured me that I had!

some one said the same thing about ebay-that he is a canadian who used to sell on ebay usa and now he has been told he can only list on ebay canada.
on ebay, when you state that you are willing to ship item internationally, your item is accessible by intl bidders when they do a search.
dont know about yahoo.
could it be possible some kind of govt compliance is coming??like collecting sales tax??

come to think of it-i recall quite a few canadian sellers on ebay usa and they have interesting items to sell which we dont see too often here.
wonder why they want to keep us in line like that??
there are also UK sellers who have interesting items and japanese sellers from japan, chinese from hong kong and there is a gem dealer from thailand.
what about ebay stores??

Why have an eBay Canada or Yahoo Canada or ebay Germany or Yahoo Germany if those sellers use the USA version? If you want unique Canadian or German items visted the Canadian or German version of ebay or Yahoo. I can see a variety of reasons the two auction sites are trying to get foreign sellers off the USA site. For instance, the lifeblood of any auction site is new users. When the new users see all the foreign sellers and the foreign currency equilavents they must get very confused and many of them may give up on trying to learn an already confusing auction culture.

i disagree, new bidders will soon learn and reap the benefits of either rare interesting items or lower prices or both.
i know carltonware of UK is no longer in business but its products are offered by uk sellers at a good price, some bidders dont mind the shipping fee
it is not that easy to go to a foreign site like ebay japan or ebay germany ,unless you are well versed in their languages,i wont trust the translator to translate any item i want to bid on.
if sales tax is not the issue, and i assume it is not for the benefits of IRS,then it could be turf issue, that us green back is very nice to have .
chinese sellers from china have done extremely well selling on usa ebay.

some items may be shunned by your fellow countrymen but very much desired in other countries.

Something to consider - A lot of times they want a US address and/or banking information. I have many Canadian clients who live and operate in Canada, but have both. I imagine they must be close to the border, but most Canadians are. It may be worth looking into.

I always list in U.S. dollars. The craft books I sell are readily available to Canadians, but desired by U.S. buyers, so there is no market here. I tried selling some items on the Canadian site, and in 6 months I got a 2.50 bid! I am not close to the border, but I do have a U.S. bank account, problem is, I can get no replies from Yahoo, no response to emails, and a very unhelpful response from a long distance phone call. I was told I had received an email explaining it 2 or 3 weeks ago, well, I didn't and would really like to know the reason.

if not sales tax or IRS issues, then it must be related to law enforcement.
if a foreigner sells sony laptop or nokia cellular phones on usa yahoo or ebay, take the money and not deliver, the us buyer will file complaint with ebay usa/yahoo usa, fbi, ftc, usps??
how effective are these agencies in tracking down the seller and recouping the money for the buyer??
also how time consuming and $$ consuming to do so??
i dont think this is against canadian sellers,i think it is against all foreign sellers.
this is not the case with ebay, wonder when and if ebay will do the same??
if they do impose same restrictions, buyers will pay more and us sellers will be happy
