I hope Yahoo's Seller Manager doesn't snafu again. I posted bulk uploaded 50 auctions at 7pm. Yahoo had a glitch for a few hours and they did not post until midnight? Who is going to look at my auctions at midnight?

Almost every auction that sells on Yahoo has only one bid anyway. The closing time has very little relavence. Put items that have a chance to attract multiple bids on eBay and try to find a buyer for a common item on Yahoo. Yahoo is a warehouse site with some traffic and a 5 cent listing fee and FVF. To think it is anything but that is not being realistic at all.

Yahoo auctions is starting to do things right!!
I hope there is a free listing day at least once a month.
Ebay may start to worry then.

Then why don't you list your auctions at 3am and see how they do? Even if there is one bidder, when is that one bidder most likely to view my auction? Closing time makes all the difference as my listings are closer to the top when buyers browse. And I know buyers browse more than search in my categories.

You can pick your closing time on yahoo, within the hour window of when you want the auctions to close that day....so it really shouldn't matter right?
list away on Thursday, and pick your closing time.

You try editing 50 auctions to have it close at the right time.

You get set the time when you list. If you set the time right can get 10.5 days out of them.

If you use the bulk loader, you can get up to 14.5 days. The bulk loader allows a duration of 14 days that is not available with any other listing method.

auction close Time DOnt make Much difference on the internet when it comes to how many more or less bids they end with.

Closeing time only has to do with closeing them at the best time for your self to handle the EOA and shipping.

We all live in different time zones around the world When it's 3:30 AM here on the east coast its afternoon in another part of the world,

12/04/01 Free Listing Day this Thursday, December 6th
Yahoo! Auctions has experienced unprecedented growth in recent weeks. We thank you, the Auctions Community, for making this happen. To show our gratitude, and as a way of offering 'Holiday Thanks' to you, we're announcing a free listing day on Thursday, December 6. All new auctions submitted between 12:01am PST and 11:59pm PST on Thursday will not be subject to listing fees; other fees still apply. (Note: Auto-resubmits for auctions listed prior to Thursday will be subject to normal listings fees, even if they occur on Thursday.)
We hope this will supercharge your auctions business as the Holidays approach. All the best to you, your family, and your friends this holiday season, and in the year to come.

Is Yahoo doing this out of gratitude? They're doing it so you get your items listed on Yahoo before Ebay's free listing day.

I was going to take a rest from listing, but I guess I'll put up some up tomorrow.

I find start times on Yahoo is more important than end times. I'll start listing in the afternoon, occasionally get a few early bids or Buy Now's within thee hours, and never receive anymore bids after that. I can't remember the last time I got bids in the final four hours.

Yahoo is planning on rewarding sellers when certain goals are met. I predict a big increase in listings. You cant beat the lower fees, and much easier to use site. I wish I had the current auction count.

The new fees are not a good deal if you sell things for more than $9.99. Here's why:

For almost any item that you list as a real auction with a low opening bid, you will do much better on eBay. So the $.25 listing fee you save and the 3% FV fee you save will almost always be overcompensated for by the increased sale price on eBay.

The only way to safely sell on Yahoo is to do a 1st Bid WINS "auction" where the minimum bid is = to the BUY NOW price....a classified ad really. But if you do that, and the price you are looking for is $10 or more, then listing fees jump to $.15 upto $25 and $.35 from $25 to $50, and $.75 for $50 and over.

And when you list for a fair price, be prepared to wait for buyers, and wait, and wait, and wait.

One of Y! managements complaints about the free listings was all the low priced junk that cluttered their site. So rather than teach people how to use the search engine, and instead of expanding the listing tree where needed, they chose to unclutter the whole site.

Now their new fee structure only favors items under $10 in value, so what they will attract is only what they were trying to get rid of in the first place, while killing off what they wanted. Maybe they'll hire Henry Blodgett. He can hype with the best of them. He would be good at answering emails.

Back in the free days when I did a lot of sales, I compared identical items selling on both sites. The difference when accounting for ebay fees was not much. Yahoo also has free photo hosting. Yahoo featured only costs .10¢ per day (Aver .70¢ per run) vs ebay's $15. I put $10 items featured on Yahoo, can't do that with ebay!

I can't rely on bidding on Yahoo anymore, have to do BUY NOWS, but ebay bidding has declined also. I have to do more BINS on ebay just to get the price I need.

Fees on ebay haven't deterred the low end items. Do a smart SEARCH on ebay for items that close for under $2. Yahoo may have realized that low end stuff is a fact of the auction biz unless you're a Sotheby's.
