I have noticed that on AW my hit counter may indicate I had 5 views of my auction. If I log into Yahoo and goto "my auctions" and view their hit counter it may be as high as 20 views. Does anyone know why? Which one should I trust?

Did you choose a "smart" counter in your AW preferences?

Smart counters will only count "unique" views. Regualar counters count all views even if they are from the same user including your own looks.

Yahoo counters count all views (except yours) so if 1 person looks at it 5 times you'll get 5 views registered.

I put an independant counter on my Yahoo auctions last year and found that actually the yahoo counter was a bit lower than my independant counter. They were close so I think the difference was my viewing my own auctions.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I had selected the "smart counter". Now I know why.

I listed 50 items on Thursday. My AW counter shows hits ranging from 1-5. On Yahoo, the hits range from 12-18. The only exception is on one item that has a bid. That number is slightly higher.
There is no way that all of these items have hits that range so closely in number.
What I make of this is that the number 12 appears much too often. I think Yahoo is inflating the numbers on these auctions.

jalleniii-I have not experienced that. Some of my auctions have high views most do not.

It is possible that 12 people have checked out ALL of your auctions. Or that a couple of folks have checked out the same auctions several times. That's a good sign.

I always put a link into my auctions that will take a person to a photo view of all my auctions. It's easy to do. My thinking is that if 1 person checks out 1 of my auctions and then decides to look at my other auctions, I will get more hits on all my auctions.

I have always believed that if I could just get folks to look at all my auctions, I would at least get some bids. So far, it really hasn't worked for me the way I hoped.

I have some auctions with lots of views and no bids, a couple with 1 view and 1 bid and some still with 0 views!!!! Makes me crazy...

I don't think Yahoo is padding the page looks. I use ruby lane and the yahoo and ruby lane counters agree with each other when I check them out. Must be a problem with the AW counter.
