I won an auction last night. Newbie seller, item listed way wrong, with atrocious spelling. Anyhow, she has 0 fb and I bid, (only bidder) and won. She had several similar items also listed wrong, but those had a reserve on them. Also, all of these things had a buy price.
So....

She mails me and tells me that the buy price amount is due + shipping and she is not charging enough shipping. I know this without a doubt, she apparently does not. I write back and tell her "I owe my bid, not your buy price, please advise..."

Have not heard back yet, but am wondering...
Should I hold her to the auction and neg her if she does not honour it, or should I let her off the hook? Her auctions are a hoot, she is harmless (also hopeless if she does not learn to use a spellchecker), and so what do you think? Does she deserve charity or a lesson?

I should add, that I want the widget, but I would not have bought it at the buy price. I bid because it was a good deal.

Remember we were all beginers once and all started with 0 feed back

Do you really feel that strongly it nessary to chase new sellers away by makeing them start with a -1 sheesh.

im not saying anyone deserves charity but if that is how you want to refer to help for another then offer your charity, Write the seller and let them know there was no reserve on this auction and you won with your frist bid which was under there buy price.

them auction with buy prices are a bit confuseing to understand at frist when you run them I sell on yahoo and it took some looking my frist few time to figure out who won with the buy price and who won under it

being there frist sale they are prolly pretty excited and will go through with the sale and at worst if they chose not to honor the worst you could rate them is average as in the average new user with your reason..

Oh and remeber this some times typos are there for a reason I use them from time to time since all tend to miss spell it helps in serches in fact as you read through yahoo info for listing your webpage or auctions they recomend useing miss spellings to help your chances of being found.

dman - I did write the seller to explain. If she had mailed me to say she made an error, I would have let the thing go immediately. Instead she sent me an invoice for the buy price. She has since mailed me a second time to tell me to pay the buy price. Personally I think she should read the rules, don't you?

On the other hand, I obviously feel sorry for her, or I would not be writing on this forum. For the record, this is a widget - not valuable - just interesting junk. If she wants to sell on Yahoo, and she wants good feedback, she should probably honour my bid, yes/no?

update- she read the rules, is selling the widget at my bid price, and I will be leaving her glowing fb. Can't beat that.

Traceyg: I hope that you were trying to be funny, because I had a hard time trying to read your response. You did get your point across though; no 'spelling stars here'!

maybe she doesn't know what a buy price is....and that she has a contract to opening bid price.....explain it to her...if you want it insist on your rights...she has to learn...but i wouldn't neg her ...for her lack of knowledge..if after you explain....she still refuses ...then neg her for her refusal to abide by contract....cj

Lordy!....someone finally mentioned my pet peeve.....that being a seller, buyer, or anyone else who doesn't seem to either care or be capable of using a spell check.

Lack of care in one's presentation means to me either a stupid person, or one who doesn't have much respect for themselves, their product, or their potential buyers. I avoid these like the plague.

You see the same thing on message boards, no one seems to use a spell check, and even though this board doesn't have one, it is easy enough to copy/paste your message into a blank e-mail (from the top of your screen); run a spell check before you post your note...

Incorrect spelling is a bad reflection on you and an insult to your bidder and/or the reader of your messages.
