Boo Hoo Yahoo. My first listings are ending and nary a bid. Is it my merch-my starting prices? Nah--don't think so. I'm the crossings2000 for any that would like to give some constructive critism. I'll take it with the spirit it is given. Thanks!

I get "no listings" under that name. If it's you then you'll have to resubmit since Yahoo gives no access to closed auctions.
Are you from Stn Mtn? If so, we are neighbors.
Hard lesson--Yahoo takes p a t i e n c e. Most don't mind since we don't pay for re-subs.

I would give the same advice patience. I sometimes have things bought at the buy price that have been listed for a long time. I use buy prices on most of my auctions. They can be helpful.

Re-- no sales. I keep my huge inventory of closed sales that didn't sell. That way when I see a bidding trend on the rest of Yahoo (like the 3rd week of the month) I just go to my closed sales and relist a bunch of stuff.
Just sold some that I've relisted on and off for 4 months!! Now, you couldn't do that on ebay. If it didn't sell, none of us wanted to reinvest more listing money, right? Stick it out here and list tons of stuff - it eventually sells. Remember, the same bidders are NOT online ALL the time. Some bidders only visit maybe twice a month! Keep your chin up and keep relisting and relisting....

jeanyu I could not find you either.
The thing on Yahoo is forget about ebay because they do not work the same way.
Yahoo allows you to put your entire inventory (if you wish) on the block marked whatever price you want for no fee at all. If you have a shop full of stuff you do not expect to turn it all in 7 days, I mean that is just not realistic.
As people all over this forum say over and over again "use the buy price". I would go further and say try "first bid wins". Forget bids, go for SALES.
We have have had our best month ever selling online (I abandoned ebay with 494 fb so I am not new at this). We maintain 100 listings give or take and sell 25% of them a week, all "buy price" and in our case "first bid wins". Some things sell in 1 hour, others in 1 month (or even 2), and it matters not one whit to me which. I am getting the price I want for each item, and it is not costing me nothing.
I do YAHOOOO!
I will have 500 fb on Yahoo before I get the last 6 on ebay to get the new star. That says it all.

Hi Everybody, thanks for all the suggestions. VeryModern, I really like that idea of "Buy Now". Guess with all the options YaHoo threw at this newbie, I missed that one. Back to relist those auctions that didn't get any bids and let's hope for success! BTW, I goofed, my ID is thecrossings2000. Those dang pesky spaces. Thanks all!!

jeanyu - I just took a peek. Very good that you have your email in your listing. People cannot get your address on yahoo unless they win an auction.
Hard to tell how much it may help, but I would also refer to your ebay feedback. Your ad does not read like a beginner's so it is not terribly crucial - but it can't hurt.
I put a bit like "have 500 + fb on ebay check user XXXXXXXX". I know this can be checked using your email, but plenty of people don't. This is also a good way to get traffic between your listings on ebay (if you have them) and Yahoo.
Good luck!

Jeanyu,
You can say you have ___ rating under eBay ID ___ but don't say "also see my auctions on eBay" or Yahoo will delete your ads for promoting the competition.

Hi Jeanyu,
Just want to make sure you understand a BUY price is not the same as a reserve. If you open for $5 and list a buy price of $10 a bidder will win for $5 if that's all they bid. The advantage for a buy price is that it closes the ad immediately and they don't have to compete with other bidders. You need to mention that as encouragement for them to bid more.
On the other hand you could make the buy price equal to the opening and add "first bid wins" to the title. A lot of bidders still don't understand the Buy price concept either way.
A lot of bidders love to shop with "Show only photos". You are unfortunately missing that market by using a photo host. Yahoo only allows pics uploaded directly on the submit item screen into their gallery.

This 'old' newbie is forever grateful to all
of you who help us on these boards. I will be trying more on Yahoo soon and have learned
so much here that I couldn't find or understand via my own searching for facts and rules.....kasmoon,do you mean if my auction begins through Auction Watch that my picture won't show up on a Yahoo Auction?...verymodern, your explanations are very helpful to a newbie too. Thanks, Dana

Dana71, Your pics will be seen only if someone clicks the ad. They would have to click every ad individually.
Bidders can shop by text only or photo only and a lot prefer the ease of photo only.
Also, if someone is on an ad page and clicks see sellers other auctions they get a page of the titles but there are also random thumbnail photos on top to SHOW off a selection of that sellers merchandise.
So there are 2 big disadvantages to using a photo host-- your other auctions page has no pics--your ads are not shown to anyone shopping by photo only.

kasmoon, thanks for your time to explain that tricky eBay reference. Cripes, I was already to go in with "don't forget to see my auctions on eBay under my 'ebay ID'". So much to learn. Think I'm going to close all the auctions and start fresh, using their hosting pics and this buy now feature a bit more wisely. Why does life seem to get more complicated the easier it is supposed to get
A Big THANKS again.

Hold on! Waitaminnit!
If the lazy bidder looks at your profile, and you're not too paranoid, they can find your e-mail there. Tell 'em to look at yer profile in your description. This simplifies your description. You can put stuff like that in your profile.
I have not referenced my past feedback on eGreed. Feedback doesn't mean Jack. And Jack just left town.
Like Kasmoon says beware the opening bid vs the buy price. I made that mistake listing items valued at $50.00 with a buy of $50.00 and an opening of $1.00. What a hassle!

Uh, if you do use the BUY NOW price and have a lower starting bid, I am curious, can such an auction also use a RESERVE?

I guess you could Radh, but my concept is that you use either "first bid wins" and have opening equal to Buy price or set a buy price slightly higher than the opening to encourage the bidder to go for the quick win.
The buy price was developed as our tool to get a sale. If you also have a reserve it would have to be equal or less than the buy price. You might end up with bids but no sale due to reserve not met. Nothing to stop you from trying it though.

It seems to me it would be alot less confusing for the bidder if it was a plain and simple FIRST BID wins, and that some retail-like pricing is therefore, in order.
