I shipped a package to japan last month (bidder paid for express shipping) the package came back to me customs turned it down I went to the post office and they said I would have to pay 20.00 more to ship it again the problem was that the buyer did not send enough mailing info and the item was returned I offered to send the bid amount back and I would relist the doll, ( bid on doll was 20 plus shipping) Bidder said if I did not pay the shipping charges myself they would turn me into yahoo for breaking my contract with them. ( I emailed bidder a picture of the pack that came back also sent her the info post office gave me on why it was returned.

The problem is the buyer's responsibility, not yours. Return the payment (registered - so that you have a signature) and forget
about it. She doesn't have a leg to stand on. Make sure to blacklist too, boy what a pain.

I would be gentle with the buyer until I was more certain that this was a case of them not being willing to accept that providing an incomplete address resulting in additional postage costs was their responsibility and not just a language problem.
I enjoy the concept and profit of international sales but choose to absorbe some additional postage costs just last week when the language issue was a factor.
Your 100% right in this case but sometimes getting buyers to understand and respond accordingly just isn't worth the time and trouble.
Being the owner and CEO of an International Trading Company (hey, who has to know it's run from our dining room table) does have it's trials and tribulations.

It just occured to me that you might offer to send it, at your expense, via surface (might just cost five or six bucks)or they can reimburse you for the full expense of express shipping.
That's above and beyond your obligation in this case but sometimes compromise and moving on is the best available solution.

When threatend by a customer, I have found it best to return their money, and wish them well. I would not be blackmailed.

Sounds like maybe your customer just didn't want to pay the import fees. I agree that it's not your responsibility. What a sticky situation though. Blackmail is so ugly, and all over a $20.00 doll! Pathetic! Definitely blacklist this person.

well, actually, on second thougght if I were you I would take one of the 2 above suggestions-either refund the money (minus whatever shipping fees) OR send the package surface. Chances are good that if you send it surface the person will still refuse to pay the customs fees though, so back to square one. Plus surface to Japan takes forever. My sister lives there now, & it once took 6 months for me to get a surface package she sent me.
