I love frist bid wins auctions on yahoo, but I have stopped listing most my auctions this way just some I list this way now for a while it got so I barily finished listing and launching and the Item was won and paypal payment sent.
I cant get good inventory fast enough to to keep up listing and the packing and shipping was getting wild too I was putting up $100 or more for packageing $100 or more daily on postage out of pocket before I could get cash tranfered to the bank account.
I love the turn over for sure but people want you ontop of shipping when they buy this way and out of pocket cost rise fast
payments were insistant but not really like cash in the hand and bill paying was suffering delays
just a warning to new sellers to yahoo frist bid wins if you list high end sure to sell Item the bids will fallow and and even though paypal make payment fast. have a crdeit card with low interest you dont mind getting cash advances on or extra dollars in the bank if you list 100 or 300 items frist bid wins.
if even 50 get buyer paying buy price and paypaling you money for packageing and shipping will be up front out of your pocket for money you will not see for a week or three from paypal

I love it.
I list everything I possibly can in the first bid wins format. I wake up virtually every day with at least one buyer who has run down my listings and bought 2 or 3 or more (one guy bought 21 times in one fell swoop) items and I know it was because "they could".
dman, I agree people are hoping for a quick turnaround and in my case not only can I give it to them, I prefer this. It suits my personality. I loathe having items boxed (or not) sitting around growing hair while I wait for payment. Makes me crazy. I think is because I am an old Frito gal. Chips go stale, move 'em OUT! Boxes hang around too long I start to panic.
I pack, print postage, and ship a parcel in 15 minutes every chance I can and to me this is as "good as it gets". Fair to say it's
the type A seller plan.

If 1st Bid Wins is preferred by sellers and buyers, does this mean the auction format of selling is dying out? 1st Bid Wins is no different from a classified ad.
With everyone looking for new places to sell, maybe we should be looking for a fixed price site to sell at instead of another auction site.

jake,
Have you looked at www.nobidding.com ? Not much going on there. Tried it a while. But now they have an easy relist feature. You just click on the closed auctions you want to relist, and you do all the selected ones at the same time. And, there is no expiration on the listing of an item, you can leave it up there forever.
No bidding, like the name says. You just put up a set price. No fees of any kind either, totally free.

Just started listing at Yahoo this weekend.
When you guys say "First Bid," are you all talking about "Buy Price"?
And how are you searching the numbers you're posting?

I am searching "bid wins" to pick up 1 bid wins, 1st bid wins, One bid wins, etc.
In a 1 bid wins auctions, the opening bid and the buy price are the same ammount.

Well, I decided to check out the 1st bids auctions too. I tried them several months ago and didn't find they worked any better for me than my regular auctions. But after seeing this post I thought I would maybe try again. I checked tonight (10/17) and there are currently 35,791 that show up in a search.
I then decided to do a closed auction search to see if I could see how many 1st bid wins auctions actually closed with a bid.
I found closed auctions under "bid wins" showing 15,913. I toggled the closing times and found that these auctions listed were between 7/9 & 9/13. Why nothing newer than that showed up I don't know.
What this looks like to me is that although more and more people are listing under 1st bid wins format, they still don't seem to be doing any better than other auctions for closing with a winner. So I'm back to square one.

I can tell you that 1st Bid Wins! has made all the difference in my auctions! I list, they win, I list, they clean me out, I list...on and on.
I have my items priced fairly--not necessarily the price that I would expect on Ebay, but then again I don't have to pay any fees, so my buyers and I both benefit!

I don't know where you're getting these numbers, but I can tell you I've sold lots that way since 9/13! About 60 per week, and I'm small potatoes!

Hey VM,
I list some of my auctions as BID & BUY. I wonder if your total is catching that tag as well?

ladele, it is not.
I posted some time ago about creating a standard like NR = no reserve so that buyers who prefer not to wait could search "Batman Bid Wins" for example and pull up auctions of sellers offering items with no waiting. I have no idea if anyone searches this way but still think it's a good idea.

VM,
Didn’t catch that earlier thread. I only started reading post here within past month and haven’t ventured out of the Yahoo Auction section of the message center! Such a sheltered life!
Anyway I think a standardized acronym system is a great idea. I just use BID & BUY (9 spaces and characters) as oppose to 1st bid wins (12 spaces and characters) to provide more title space for item description in title. That’s another good reason to have a system to use less characters as well as help run a search!
